Gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram terrorists invaded Gurmushi village of Marte Local Government Area of Borno State, killing 42 people, while 12 others sustained injuries.
This came after the terrorists razed the village.
A resident, who preferred anonymity, said on phone that the gunmen stormed the village in the early hours of Wednesday, shooting sporadically and setting houses ablaze.
“I counted over 40 corpses littering the ground, while the village was razed completely. Most of us ran into the bush for safety,” he said.
Another resident, who spoke to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Hausa service monitored in Maiduguri, said she fled the village to the neighbouring Cameroon, adding that 42 people were killed, while 12 injured people were receiving treatment at a hospital near the border.

Efforts to get to the spokesman of the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Colonel Muhammed Dole and the state Police Public Relations Officer, Gideon Jibrin, for confirmation failed, as their phones were switched off.
