Governor of Borno State in Nigeria’s north east says he has information on the whereabouts of about 200 schoolgirls kidnapped by Islamist group, Boko Haram, on April 14.

Governor Kashim Shettima told the BBC that he had passed reports of the sightings of the girls to the military for verification.

Mr Shettima added that he did not think the girls had been taken across the border to Chad or Cameroon.

“The news about the missing girls has to do with the fact that we got reports of them being sighted in some location. We have given the information to security agencies for them to verify and confirm  the location where the girls are,” Governor Shettima.

The Nigerian military had requested for information that could aid their search for the girls of the Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok.

It has been four weeks now since the girls had been abducted and the leader of the sect had in a video threatened to see the girls in a market.

In a new video released by Islamist militants, on Monday, about 100 girls believed to be some of the 234 school girls, kidnapped in Chibok, Borno State, on April 14, were seen reciting the Koran.

According to BBC, the leader of the group Abubakar Shekau, disclosed that the girls had been converted to Islam, and would be held until all imprisoned militants had been freed.

In the 17-minute video, obtained by French news agency AFP, three of the girls are shown speaking while all the girls are wearing the full-length hijab.

Two girls say they were Christian and have converted to Islam, while the other says she is Muslim.

The girls reportedly appeared calm and one said that they had not been harmed.
