Cops nab robbers with aid of ATM camera

►The picture of a suspected armed robber captured during a cash transaction on the Automated Teller Machine in Pansia, Yenagoa Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, has led to his arrest by the police.

►It was learnt that the suspect, identified simply as Peresuede, was apprehended after using one of his victims’ ATM card to withdraw N19,000.

Peresuede’s picture was said to have been taken by the cash machine during the transaction.

A police source, who craved anonymity, said the suspect had last week burgled the home of a female victim at gun point and carted away valuables including her ATM card. He had also forced the victim to disclose her ATM pin for easy access.

It was further learnt the suspect had warned his victim that his failure to secure access to the account would cost her life.

Confirming the incident on Wednesday, spokesperson for the Bayelsa State Police Command, Mr.Alex Akhigbe, said though the suspect had been arrested, the picture taken during the ATM transaction aided the police in identifying him.

He said, “The suspect was identified and traced to his home. After the search in his home, stolen valuables belonging to his victims, including a wrist watch belonging to an expatriate, were recovered.

“The wrist watch from one of the victims was used to take picture. Even the T-shirt worn to the bank was also stolen.”
