THE outgoing Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, UNIBEN, Professor Osayuki Oshodin, has said no fewer than 4,000 persons were employed by his administration in the past five years.
Oshodin, who spoke at a briefing on the activities marking the 39th and 40th convocation and 44th Founder’s Day ceremony of the university, said he decided to provide employment opportunities for the people due to his desire to help fight the unemployment problem ravaging the country.

The convocation is scheduled to kick off on Wednesday, November 19.
Professor Oshodin, whose tenure will end on November 30, also used the opportunity to introduce his successor, Professor Faraday Orumwense.
Oshodin, who noted that the university was combining two sessions for the convocation due to the failure of the university to hold convocation last year as a result of the strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, said 10,735 graduates would be awarded various degrees and diplomas.
He said the Iyase of Benin Kingdom, Chief Sam Igbe, Senator Daisy Danjuma, Mr. Tony Elumelu and Reve-rend Mathew Okpebholo, will be honoured with degrees.
