Police declare former Kano State commissioner wanted for electoral crimes

The police in Kano, on Tuesday, declared Musa Kwankwaso, a former commissioner in the government of Ibrahim Shekarau, wanted.

Mr. Kwankwaso is wanted alongside four others who were accused of several offences during Saturday’s gubernatorial elections, the police said.

The police Commissioner, Ibrahim Idris, said 18 people were involved in stealing election materials, burning them as well as carrying weapons.

He told journalists that 14 out of the 18 were arrested and the suspects disclosed that they were sponsored by Mr. Kwankwaso.

Mr. Idris said when the men of the SCID stormed Mr. Kwankwaso’s house to arrest him, he escaped over his fence.

When Chat212 contacted Mr. Kwankwaso, he denied knowledge of any crime or a warrant for his arrest.

He said he was still moving around freely without any trouble.
