The state House of Assemblies of Nasarawa, Delta, Edo and Enugu states have elected their respective speakers. Prompt news informs that Nasarawa state elected Ibrahim Balarabe after governor Umaru Al-makura inaugurated the 5th Assembly on Tuesday.

The governor congratulated the lawmakers for making the senate and urged them to show good examples and governance as a show of appreciation to the people that put them there.
Balarabe was voted following nominations from a member representing Lafia central, Abubakar Zanwa Imam and seconded by a PDP member Ibrahim Alkali representing Lafia North constituency.
Former majority leader of the 4th Assembly Godiya Kawasaki was elected deputy speaker.
Meanwhile, Delta state elected Sapele constituency representative, Monday Igbuya, as speaker of the sixth Delta state House of Assembly in an election that followed Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s declaration of the session in Asaba yesterday.
The Guardian reports that Igbuya was elected following a decision by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state. Okowa (Delta North) was not considered because he emerged governorship candidate.

Igbuya was the former majority leader in the state house of assembly. Mr. Friday Ossai Osanebi was elected his deputy.
Igbuya begged all elected lawmakers to show him maximum support promising that indigenes would remain first as the House diligently pursues its constitutional duties.
Enugu State elected Edward Uchenna Ubosi (Enugu East) as the new Speaker of the House of Assembly, while Dr. Donatus Uzogbado (Oji River) was elected his deputy. Ubosi and Uzogbado, according to the Guardian were unanimously elected.
Addressing the recent crises that rocked the state, Ugwuanyi said it is a necessary part of development and urged the lawmakers to always put the interest of the state ahead of their when discharging their duties.
In like manner, Victor Edoror representing Esan central was elected Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly and Bright Osayande representing Ovia North East constituency I was appointed his deputy.

Other officers elected were; Folly Ogedengbe (Majority Leader), Elizabeth Ativie (Deputy Majority Leader), Sunday Aghedo (Chief Whip) and Kabiru Adjoto (Deputy Chief Whip).
They were appointed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) via a letter from its state secretary, Osaro Idah.
However, three different letters nominating three different people were reported to have been sent by the the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the position of minority leader
At least six journalists working with the The Guardian, Punch, Nation, Daily Independent, photo journalists with the Nigerian Observer, Vanguard and several others were harassed by policemen at the Edo State House of Assembly during the inauguration of speakers and other officials.
Guardian informs that its journalist, Alemma-Ozioruva Aliu was detained in the security waiting room while policemen and men of the Department of State Security (DSS) insulted him and his line of profession.
The chaos started because journalists were denied entry into the venue for over an hour despite identifying themselves while political aides and hangers-on were allowed into the chamber.
It was said that as Aliu met with the two policemen at the gate why journalist were not allowed in, they hit him with his boot breaking a glass there and proceeded to accuse him to causing the damage.
