Nigerians Will Forgive Buhari If - Labour Party

The 2015 Rivers State governorship candidate of Labour Party (LP), Prince Tonye Princewill, in a recent interview, analysed the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration, admonishing a careful choice of team workers, gradual fuel subsidy removal and a guide for Nigeria and her citizenry.

According to him, the vital part of the president’s campaign promises is on the need to address corruption, unemployment and power. He stated that, although, it would not be that easy, but if the President can address especially these issues, Nigerians will forgive him. Mr. Princewill opined that for these issues to be addressed, the president requires commitment and due diligence in choosing those that will work with him.

Princewill said “it is already acknowledged that at his age there is only little he can do, but he should be as good as his team. I think if anybody will argue the case for the emergence of President Buhari, it is that he is here to lead. He is here to be a moral compass and provide direction and to make sure that at the end of the day the buck stops with him. But no matter how much of a moral compass you are, you can only point people in the right direction.”

Emphasising on the fact that he does not think President Buhari will re-enact the things he did back in the military era, but that the introduction of War Against Indiscipline (WAI) actually proved that Nigerians can adhere to instructions and in turn, discipline themselves. The former governorship candidate expressed hope on seeing young and average aged Nigerians in the present government.

On the issue of why the president has taken so long to get his men on board, Princewill asserted that “if you are going to take this long to get people, then make sure they are the right people. We all can appreciate that to do things properly sometimes requires time, but what we will not be comfortable with is that you take all this time and you come up with wrong choices.”

Furthermore, he advised the president to focus on the power sector which will eventually stabilize corporate organizations to help provide employment for the unemployed.

However, talking about choosing those to work in the president’s team, Vanguard had reported that at least seven members of party’s National Working Committee (NWC) have indicated interest in different ministerial positions.

Also recall that a controversial Lagos lawyer and activist, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, recently dragged President Muhammadu Buhari to court over delay in appointing his ministers.
