PDP Punishes Chairman For Diverting GEJ’s Campaign Fund

The ward chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Shiroro local government area of Niger state, have suspended the chairman and secretary of the party, Alhaji Iro Kurebe and Ibrahim Isah respectively.

Both men have been accused of diverting N3 million campaign funds meant for former president Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election bid in the 2015 elections, Leadership reports.

The money was meant for 184 polling units in the area.

This was contained in a two-page resolution, copied to the zonal and state chapters of the party and made available to journalists on June 7, Sunday.

The two-page resolution was signed by the 14 ward chairmen.

The letter read in part: “During presidential election conducted in March 2015, each polling unit was to get N10,000 and we have 184 units making N10,000 by 184 totaling N1.840 million. The two party officials also collected N1.5 million from deputy chairman of the party, Barr Tanko Beji. The money was meant for campaign of PDP in the area.

“The chairman and secretary illegally deducted N391,000 from the monthly allowances given local government and ward executives without our consent. The then deputy governor candidate, Kantigi supported the party with N1.2 million, including motorcycles also from Hajiya Jumai Babangida Aliyu but all these went into thin air.”

According to the ward chairmen, the party had started reorganising and restructuring ahead 2019 election.

They added that people with questionable characters were responsible for the failures of the PDP and therefore they would not allow such people to hold any executive position in the party.

Following their loss at the 2015 elections, the PDP has been enmeshed in crisis across the states. The chairman of the Lagos state chapter of the PDP, Tunji Shelle, had also been relieved of his duties for misusing election campaign funds
