The state governors have been warned against diverting the bailout given to them by the federal government, the leadership of Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), gave this warning yesterday.
The Chairman of the union, Comrade Michael Olukoya, said, the eyes of the union is on the states government, and the disbursement of the bailout funds would be closely monitored by the union. Any attempt by the state government to divert the funds will be resisted. He therefore urged the governors to use the funds for what is meant for, else; ready to face the wroth of the teachers.
He asked the workers and the state NUT to closely monitor the disbursement of the fund and ensure that it was used appropriately and promptly.
Olukoya also commended President Muhammadu Buhari for coming to the rescue of the states government. He said, Mr. President’s approval of the bailout shows that he understand the plight of the workers. He however pleaded with the President to ensure adequate security in our schools, most especially in the northern part of the country, adding that, 37 teachers have been confirmed dead in the last Zaria blast, and many other teachers sustained injuries and they are presently receiving treatment in the hospital.
