SHOCKER!! NASS Clerk Pays Homage To Saraki

Clerk to the National Assembly,  Salisu Abubakar Maikasuwa, had led the management of the Assembly to pay homage  to Senate president,  Bukola Saraki, The Sun reports.

This is the first  formal meeting between the Senate president and the National Assembly management since he was  elected on June 9.

Maikasuwa told Saraki that his team would ensure that the National Assembly would put in efficient service delivery to the lawmakers and Nigerians on the front burner.

The Clerk said: “We are here to once again congratulate you on your election as president of the Senate and to assure you of the commitment of the National Assembly to ensure that we will partner with you so that you will be able to deliver on your campaign promises and the promises you made when you were delivering your acceptance speech during the inauguration of the National Assembly.

“We are a united bureaucracy and we are dedicated, we are very loyal and would continue to pursue effective service delivery in the interest of the National Assembly and Nigeria as a whole.”

In his response,  Senate president urged the management to cooperate with his leadership so that lawmakers could deliver on their promises to Nigerians.

“We appreciate your roles and contributions to this institution. Many of you have been here for many years and you have played your roles. We are at the beginning of our tenure of four years and it is our hope that we can work together as partners for the progress of this country.

“As the CNA had said, as politicians, who had the mandate of the people, we all saw the desire of Nigerians all over the country, the need for change so that it would not be business as usual again, and the need for us to reposition the country.

“We are committed to try and deliver to our people, but our ability and capability to deliver would also depend on the civil servants.

“On our part, we will be fair, just and uphold equity. We will ensure that merit is key.

“It cannot be business as usual because on our own part too, we have told Nigerians that things would change and we have to do our best to bring success and let the 8th Senate be the wonder that we will all be proud of.

“We offer our own hand of partnership so that we can work together for the progress of the country. Some of the things we will have to do together in terms of oversights and lawmaking, we will do it together. We cannot do it alone without your support.”
