An ex-militant leader, Mr Ramsey Mukoro, has said the appointment of retired Brig.-Gen. Paul Boroh as the coordinator, presidential amnesty programme and special adviser on Niger Delta to the president, was well deserved and commendable.
Speaking to NAN on Monday in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital, Mukoro advised the newly appointed coordinator to be wary of sycophants as he faces the task ahead.
Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari had appointed Boroh as amnesty coordinator on July 28.
Mukoro, leader of the Niger Delta Ex-Agitators Solidarity Front (NDESF), applauded Buhari for ignoring the pressure to appoint self-seeking politicians and heeding to the yearnings of the Niger Delta people.
He said: “We applaud the president for his show of sensitivity to the passionate appeal we made to him on the appointment of a competent hand to coordinate the amnesty programme.
“I will advice Boroh to avoid the selfish political class of the Niger Delta region that has used the Niger Delta struggle to enrich themselves at the expense of the people of the region.”
According to Mukoro, Boroh has the experience and pedigree on peace building and he is a military strategist.
He added that the Niger Delta people will support him to ensure that he meets the high expectations that follow his appointment, urging him to consult with relevant stakeholders on the way forward.
Ex–militant leaders have been reacting to the appointment of Boroh as amnesty coordinator, applauding Buhari for taking such step.
In his own reaction, the former coordinator of the amnesty programme, Kingsley Kuku, had commended the president for appointing Boroh as his successor. Kuku, who spoke from his hospital in America described Boroh as a seasoned administrator and soldier, for the post, hailing the president for not entrusting the office in the hands of a politician.
