A frontline human rights activist in Osun state and chairman, Civil Societies Coalition for the Emancipation of Osun State (CSCEO), Comrade Adeniyi Sulaiman, has accused Osun state governor, Rauf Aregbesola of crippling the economy of the state by making it difficult for the people to afford three square meals.
Comrade Sulaiman also fumed at the present economic hardship facing the workers in the state occasioned by the inability of the Osun government to pay salaries to its workforce and retires alike for period of six and eight months.
The activist alleged that Aregbesola plunged the state into an unprecedented debt that no previous governments ever did. He also accused the governor and his family of running the state like a family affair.
He described the proposed summit in the state as a political jamboree and waste of the meager resources of the state.
Reviewing the 36-page petition authored by a serving judge of the state high court, Justice Olamide Folahanmi Oloyede, to the State House of Assembly, Economy and Financial Crime Commission(EFCC), Independent Corrupt Practices and other related Offences Commission(ICPC), among others, the rights activist maintained that the contents of the petition and heaps of evidences contained in it would not allow it to die as being thought in some quarters in the state.
He said the petition is a must-read for Osun indigenes at home and abroad; insisting that the association would keep agitating until it is attended to.
Speaking further on the various problems facing the state, Comrade Suleiman opined that the only solution to the problems is for Aregbesola to answer to the posers being raised by the judge in her petition which provides an understanding of the financial status of the state without any hidden agenda like unjustifiable increment of workers salaries from N1.3 billion to N3.6 billion and non-disclosure of actual allocation accrued to the state from the federation account.
Suleiman said his organisation would continue to put the Aregbesola’s government on the front burner for the common good of the people of Osun state
“Aregbesola thought that because people of the state loved him, they would not ask questions about governance, particularly about the fund accruing to the state, not knowing that his second term in office would give the opportunity to the people to ask.
“So much of our commonwealth is siphoned by few individuals from Lagos and Osun.
“We want Aregbesola to truthfully tell us what went wrong with our state and he should know that only truth and justice can heal it, as employment of brigandage against opposition in the state cannot help Aregbesola in solving the myriad of problems facing the state
presently,” he said.
The table seems to have turned against Justice Oloyede who authored the 36-page petition calling for the thorough and credible investigation into the alleged gross financial misconduct of Aregbesola’s government leading to the state’s present financial challenge.
The State House of Assembly has urged the National Judicial Commission to sanction her for writing a petition based on allegations that turned out to be false.
