Operatives of the Owerri state police department have arrested a woman, Chioma Anoruo, for allegedly selling more than 19 children to clients.
Chioma, who lived at Okporo in Orlu town was said to have been in the business of child trafficking with her husband before she was apprehended by the community’s local vigilante group.
PM News reports that the vigilante group arrested Chioma and handed her over to the police but her husband escaped. Five children were rescued while a large amount of money was recovered from Chioma.

It was reported that the community had been battling cases of missing children for a while, with three children missing in the space of three months. The most recent case involved the kidnapping of two boys who were returning from school. It was reported that as the kidnappers were going with them on a motorcycle, a palm wine tapper sighted them and raised alarm. The vigilante group gave a chase and arrested one of the suspects who was identified as Ebuka.
Ebuka allegedly confessed that Chioma and her husband, Emeka bought the children for N100, 000 before they resold the children.
On sighting the vigilante group, Emeka escaped through the back door while his wife was ordered to open a door where the children were discovered.

Chioma said her work was to keep the children until her husband negotiated with clients who came to buy them. She also said she and her husband had been in the business for a long time.
Chioma and the rescued children were with the police department in Owerri.
Meanwhile, the commissioner of police in Oyo state, Muhammad Katsina said his command discovered another kidnappers’ den at Oyagbe area in Oyo town.
