Achimogu Aisha and his and Forfeited $13 million to the Federal Government of Nigeria

The Aisha Achimogu (also reported as Achimugu) forfeited funds controversy refers to a Nigerian court case involving $13 million linked to businesswoman Aisha Achimugu and her company Oceangate Engineering Oil & Gas Ltd.

What happened

In March 2026, a Federal High Court in Abuja reportedly ordered the final forfeiture of $13 million to the Federal Government of Nigeria after a case brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The EFCC argued the money was proceeds of unlawful activity.

Why it became controversial

The controversy centers on:

Source of the funds
The company reportedly claimed the money came from legitimate sources and partly as gifts to Aisha Achimugu. The court reportedly found the explanation insufficient.

Oil block acquisitions
EFCC alleged the funds were connected to payments for oil licenses PPL 302 and PPL 3007.

Political/public interest angle
Some reports and social media commentary speculated about links to contractors and public funds, which increased public attention. Allegations in public discourse are not the same as proven findings.
