Officials of the Ekiti state ministry of Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives have sealed off two banks in Irepodun/Ifelodun local government areas of the state for nonpayment of the registration of their business premises.The two banks sealed by the state ministry are Wema Bank at Iyin Ekiti and Union Bank at Igede Ekiti.
The state commissioner for Commerce, Ayodele Micheal, said that the ministry had followed due process by sending notification letter to the banks before embarking on the closure.
Ayodele who noted that the ministry will no longer tolerate any financial institution or organisation which failed to pay its dues, stressed that they will continue to seal up their premises until they comply.
The ministry’s commissioner said: “We are not appealing to them again, all we will just tell them is to pay up, and if anybody is owing now, what they are expected to have paid in January and now we are in December, we can’t beg them again.”
Meanwhile, in response to a statement made by the Ekiti state governor, Ayodele Fayose, who alleged that the All Progressives Congress was trying to arm-twist the court, the party has described it as a cheap blackmail.
The governor had said in his press conference in Lagos purporting that the ruling party was planning to illegally use the Supreme Court to upturn his mandate in favour of the party, Vanguard reports.
The party said: “Governor Fayose’s fraudulent and pre-emptive tactics will not stop justice from taking its course in the resolution of the biggest electoral fraud in the history of Nigeria.”
However, Governor Fayose had disclosed why he has been critical of the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
He said he will continue to criticize any government in Nigeria because it is a democratic country and democracy is about opposition and the government in power.
In a recent interview with Vanguard, Fayose said he started criticizing Buhari before the election that brought him to power and he doesn’t regret his actions.
