The House of Representatives on Thursday passed 14 of the Bills earlier passed by the Senate but stepped down Oil and Gas Export Free Zone Order.

The passage of the bills followed the suspension of Order XII, Rules 80, 81, 82 and 88 of the House in the plenary.

Nigeria has the world’s highest paid lawmakers and Buhari wants to slash their pay

Nigerian legislators, among the world’s top paid, receive annual salaries of between $150,000 to $190,000 per annum depending on exchange rates. At current exchange rates Nigerian lawmakers, would earn around $160,000 more than British MPs who make around $105,000 according to data from The Economist. In fact, until plunging oil prices started putting pressure on the Nigerian naira earlier this year, the Nigerian lawmakers were the second highest paid lawmakers in the world.

Rivers State Bans Consumption Of Ogogoro (Local Gin)

Following the mysterious deaths of about 22 people in Bonny Island, Bonny, and Woji in Obio Akpor local government areas, the Rivers state governments had banned the consumption of local gin popularly called ogogoro or kai-kai.

According to PM news, the Director of the Department of Disease Control in the state, Dr. Roland Obed Whyte said the ban was for the good of the locals who regularly take ogogoro.

Tensions deepen in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as party decides to shift the meeting scheduled to decide on a single candidate for the position of Senate President.

The civil servants are accusing Aliyu of unlawfully seizing their motorcycles and are demanding N100m as compensation for general damages, Punch reports.

Barely a week after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, threatened to declare him wanted over alleged laundering of over N300 billion during his tenure, the former Borno State Governor, Ali Modu Sheriff, last night voluntarily surrendered to the agency for interrogation.

25-yr-old man sets self, house ablaze

Tragedy struck, yesterday, at 12 Bonny Street, Umuahia, Abia State, as a 25 year-old man set himself and the family house ablaze.

The man, Tochukwu Ogbonna, alias Mbe (meaning tortoise), had attacked his mother with a machete, inflicting severe injuries on her.

The woman is said to be lying critically ill at the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia.

N8BN Fraud: CBN staff own posh cars, petrol stations, palatial buildings, court told


The court trial of some Ibadan based bankers indicted over the theft of N8 billion worth of mutilated banknotes was yesterday told of the stupendous wealth of the suspects. 
The suspects, including a self-acclaimed illiterate bank staff were alleged to have acquired petrol stations, shopping malls in Nigeria and abroad, exotic cars, supermarkets, among others.

Mr. Ayodeji Alase, one of the suspects and a holder of primary six certificate, was alleged to have acquired property including a duplex at Oluyole, a shopping complex, warehouse at Podo, Challenge and a fenced plot at Dugbe in Ibadan.

Lagos tanker fire blamed on LASTMA as victims count losses

Eyewitnesses of the fire disaster in Iyana-Ipaja area of Lagos State sparked by a petrol tanker have blamed officials of the Lagos State Transport Management Authority, LASTMA, for causing the accident.
 
The LASTMA officials were alleged to have pursued the tanker until it fell off the bridge at Iyana-Ipaja upon which it caused the inferno that injured 14 persons, razed 34 buildings, 44 shops and 21 vehicles.

SHOCKING! Bomb kills two, injures 33 in Maiduguri

IN MAIDUGURI, bomb hidden in a pile of scrap metal beside a busy road has killed two people and injured 33 others in Maiduguri, northeast Nigeria, military and hospital sources said on Wednesday.

The explosion, at around 1630 GMT, struck around 600 metres from army barracks and it follows a spate of bombings in the city by militant Islamist group Boko Haram that has killed around 80 people in the last few days.
