Niger-Delta Amnesty: Buhari Will Probe The Programme – Presidency

A presidential spokesperson has revealed that Muhammadu Buhari will look into the amnesty programme for Niger Delta ex-militants.

The Nation reports that Femi Adesina, the special adviser to the president on media and publicity, said this on Kaakaki, a breakfast programme on Africa Independent Television, on July 24, Friday, in Abuja.

According to the presidency, it would be wrong for Buhari to continue the programme without taking a look at the whole amnesty package.

Niger Delta: Tompolo Allays Fears, Explains Why He Summoned MEND Meeting

Chief Government Ekpemupolo (aka Tompolo), the leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), has explained why he summoned Saturday’s meeting of the militant group in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state.

In a statement issued on July 24, Friday, Tompolo stressed that the meeting was aimed at deepening the prevailing peace in the area.

There were fears in the region that the planned meeting was meant to restart the war in the oil-rich Niger Delta.

Arepo explosion: Armed vandals barricade creeks, evacuate dead colleagues

The fire from the explosion at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, pipeline at Arepo area of Ogun State, ignited by rival vandals Wednesday, was put out in the early hours of yesterday, following a forceful shut down of supply by NNPC.

Osinbajo raises alarm, says Boko Haram targeting VIPs

Boko Haram Waxing Stronger, Captures 5 LGs In Yobe, Borno

There are indications the Boko Haram insurgents are waxing stronger in the North Eastern region and have captured five local government areas in Yobe and Borno States.

This was confirmed by the governors of the affected states, Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe and Kashim Shettima of Borno, This Day reports.

According to the National Economic Council (NEC), who spoke to state house correspondents after their meeting in Abuja, Shettima and Gaidam told them the insurgents were still hiding in Sambisa forest.

Boko Haram Storms Biu, Killing Nine And Injuring Many

Suspected Boko Haram insurgents were said to have stormed Pompomarri village of Borno state earlier this week killing at least nine civilians.

According to Sahara Reporters, this information was disclosed by a vigilante in the area. The attacked village is located 12 kilometers away from Biu town.

Scores of people are feared injured following the sporadic shooting opened by the terrorists.

GOODNEWS! Corps members to choose their state of primary assignment - says NYSC

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has introduced a self-deployment system to enable prospective corps members choose where they wish to serve.

This was part of resolutions at the end of the 2015 Batch ‘B’ pre-mobilisation workshop which held in Kaduna.

Similarly, pregnant women, nursing mothers and students undergoing postgraduate studies have been banned from participating in the scheme until they are free to enlist for the service.
