Police Parade Suspected Baby Factory Operators in Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command on Tuesday paraded three pregnant women and a 36-year-old man suspected to be involved in producing babies for sale.

The ‘baby factory’ suspects, who were arrested at Igwuruta in Ikwerre Local Government Area, on July 5, 2014, were identified as Odinchinma Nwala (25), Glory Anyanwu (22), Goodness Nwankwo (19), and Stanley Okechukwu (male, 36).

Nigeria kills suspected Boko Haram fighters

Nigeria's military is claiming to have killed dozens of Boko Haram fighters while repelling an attack on a military base in the northeast of the country

The attack killed at least 53 fighters in Damboa, in the northeasterly Borno state.

Chris Olukolade, Nigeria's defence spokesman, said five soldiers and a senior military officer had also been killed in the exchange of fire on Friday night.

War On Terror: Chief Justice Asks Troops To Respect Human Rights

►The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Mariam Aloma-Muktar, has advised security agents deployed across the country to ensure they respect human rights in their fight against terrorism.

►Addressing participants at a gathering on the rule of law in combating terrorism, Justice Aloma-Muktar explained that upholding human rights was not merely compatible with a successful counter terrorism strategy but an essential element of it.

►The Chief Justice noted that compromising human rights had the capacity to provoke tension, hatred and mistrust of government among the citizens.

Proceedings in the House of Representatives were rowdy yesterday over arguments on powers of the President to deploy the country’s military during elections.

Arguments arose during debates on a bill seeking to further amend the Electoral Act, No. 6 of 2010.

Their Senate counterparts had last week Thursday passed a similar bill.
