The Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee has expelled a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Kunle Kalejaye, from further practising as a lawyer.

The LPDC disbarred Kalejaye after finding him guilty of professional misconduct. A five-man panel of the LPDC, led by the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, conducted the investigation.

The family of an Anglican Church cleric, Rev. Louis Nebo, says policemen attached to the Anti-Kidnapping Squad of the Enugu State Police Command demanded N65,000 to rescue the man of God from the kidnappers’ den.

It was learnt that N15,000 of the sum had allegedly been paid to the operatives before the kidnappers contacted the family, demanding N10m ransom.

Louis, 57, was reportedly kidnapped by some masked gunmen around Umumba Ndi Uno in the Ezeagu Local Government Area of the state last Saturday.

Jonathan approves 2015 budget

Outgoing President Goodluck Jonath DEBTan has approved the N4.5 trillion ($22.6 billion) budget for 2015, which was passed by the National Assembly in late April, the president’s spokesman, Dr Reuben Abati, said yesterday.
 The budget is 3.2 per cent smaller than last year’s as the country is facing a cash crunch following the halving of global crude prices in the past year. The budget was passed later than usual in part due to the presidential election on March 28.

14 killed in Ekiti, Plateau, Benue mayhem

Fourteen people were killed in separate violence that rocked Ekiti, Plateau and Benue states on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

Three of the deaths were recorded in Ado Ekiti during a clash between transport workers and Hausa traders   while six were   in Plateau State where     gunmen invaded four villages in the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.

The third incident which was also by gunmen left five persons dead in Jooter, Ukum Local Government Area of   Benue state.

Nigerian Air force justifies brutal beating of FAAN official

The Nigerian Air Force on Wednesday said Muhammed Shuaibu suffered in the hands of four of its officers because he broke the rule.

Shuaibu, a Protocol Officer of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, was tortured by some officers of the air force at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, on Sunday.

But the Command Public Relations Officer, Logistics Command, NAF, Joel Abioye, said Shuaibu suffered for breaking the rule and seeking to use his position to outsmart the officers.
