Bomb attacks have killed at least 32 people in northern Nigeria, amid a wave of violence from Boko Haram militants.

A suicide bomber killed at least 17 people at a bus station in Biu, witnesses told BBC News, while a second bomber was caught by a crowd and reportedly beaten to death.

Nigeria Suffers ‘Substantial’ Revenue Loss as Oil Prices Fall

Nigeria’s government revenue fell 15 percent in January as falling oil prices eroded the income of Africa’s biggest crude producer. 
Revenue fell to 416.1 billion naira ($2.1 billion) in January compared with 490 billion naira a month earlier, Accountant-General Jonah Otunla said Wednesday in an e-mailed statement. The volume of oil exports declined 33 percent in November and December, resulting in $159.88 million of lost revenue, Otunla said.

Nigeria has “suffered a substantial loss in revenue as a result of the massive drop in crude oil price at the international oil market,” he said.

More than 207 Boko Haram fighters killed by Chadian troops

Soldiers from Chad killed 207 Boko Haram fighters in clashes near a Nigerian town close to the border with Cameroon, Chad’s army announced in a statement.
One Chadian soldier was killed and another nine were wounded in Gambaru, the scene of regular attacks by the group in recent months. There was no immediate independent verification of the Chadian army’s announcement, reports a news agency.

Chad’s military also claimed to have seized large quantities of small arms and ammunition and two pick-up trucks on Tuesday.

True Identity Of Shekau: Lawmaker Challenges Military

A federal lawmaker, Hon. Benjamin Aboho has called on the Nigerian military to brief the House of Representatives on the true identity of the leader of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau.

This comes on the heels of President Goodluck Jonathan’s declaration that Shekau will be captured before the presidential elections scheduled for March 28.

According to Aboho, representing Kwande and Ushongo, Benue state at the Federal House of Reps, this contradicted an earlier claim by Nigeria’s military that Shekau had been killed during a shootout.

Kidnappers of Amaechi’s aide demand N100m

Four days after the abduction of the Deputy Chief Press Secretary to Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, Mr. Freddy Ndigbara, his captors have asked for a N100m ransom.

Ndigbara, who anchors Amaechi’s programme within and outside Government House, Port Harcourt, was kidnapped on Sunday while preparing for an All Progressives Congress rally at Kaani, in the Khana Local Government Area of the state.

Ndigbara was said to have been accosted and forced into a waiting car by his captors at the APC rally venue.

N1bn lost daily to rice importation - FG

The Federal Government has said that the country loses about N1 billion everyday from importation of rice, even as it assured that Nigeria will soon stop importing the grains.

Boko Haram abducts Adamawa LG vice-chairman

The Adamawa State Police Command on Wednesday said that the  Vice-Chairman of the Hong Local Government Area, Bijida Yakubu, was abducted last week by suspected Boko Haram fighters.

The Public Relations Officer of the command,   Othman Abubakar, also told   the News Agency of Nigeria, that three vigilante members, that were with Yakubu, lost their lives in the encounter.

Abubakar, who did not give details, however, said policemen investigating the incident had so far recovered the vice-chairman’s shoes.

FRSC cancels deadline for new number plate

The Corps Marshall of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Mr. Boboye Oyeyemi, has said that the agency will no longer insist on any deadline for the enforcement of the new number plate.
Oyeyemi, who stated this on Wednesday in an interview with journalists when he paid a courtesy visit on Governor Theodore Orji at the Government House in Umuahia, said the agency would abide by the court ruling which restrained it from enforcing the proposal.

He explained that motorists who still had the old number plate would rather get the new ones when they go to renew their vehicle licences.

3 killed, vehicles burnt as NURTW, hoodlums clash in Oshodi

Commercial activities were grounded for the better part of yesterday at the densely populated Oshodi area of Lagos, following a renewed clash between factions of the National Union of Transport Workers, NURTW, which left three persons dead and several others injured.
Part of the burnt Mosafejo Motor Park/market as a result of a renewed clash between factions of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, which led to the death of three persons, while many vehicles were burnt at Oshodi in Lagos.
Several vehicles were also burnt by the rampaging motor park touts, who freely engaged themselves with dangerous weapons. Police sources put the number of vehicles burnt at 11, while traders who partially witnessed the fracas, said over 30 vehicles were burnt.

APC reps revolt, abort House sitting

The sitting of the House of Representatives was, yesterday, disrupted after members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, rejected moves by the presiding officer of the House to stall a motion seeking to bar the military from playing a role in the conduct of the forthcoming elections.

The APC members, who now form the majority, were galled by the ruling of the deputy speaker of the House, Chief Emeka Ihedioha of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to derail the motion spearheaded by the APC minority leader.

After first walking out from the chambers, the APC members returned to put deliberations on a standstill, taunting the deputy speaker who they accused of foisting his will on majority of the members.

Missing $20bn: Reps gives Okonjo-Iweala one-week ultimatum to submit forensic audit

The House of Representatives has yesterday issued a one week ultimatum to the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the economy Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala to submit the report of the forensic audit on the alleged missing $20bn

The mandate followed a resolution, passed last week by the House at plenary which directed its Committee on Public Accounts, to investigate the matter.

Chairman of the committee, Hon. Solomon Adeola Olamilekan (APC, Lagos) while briefing Journalists on the matter stated that the report “must include the Initial Draft Report, the Executive Summary and Management/Internal Control Letters.”

Buhari threatens to back out of Abuja Accord

Presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, General Mohammadu Buhari has threatened to back out of the historic Abuja peace accord should the political allies of president Goodluck Jonathan continue with their insults and verbal attacks on his person.
He also warned that no one should regard his patriotic commitment to maintaining  national peace for weakness, stressing that neither president Jonathan nor his aides have the monopoly for the “flagrant breaches to the Abuja Peace Accord.”
