NNPC to sack more staff, set for fresh audit

Over 35 senior management staff of the corporation have been sacked - The head of Nigeria’s state-owned oil company, NNPC, has stated that the corporation would sack more staff as part of its re-organisation.

Emmanuel Kachikwu, who was recently appointed Group Managing Director of the corporation by President Muhammadu Buhari stated this on Thursday while addressing reporters at the presidential villa.

Youth Vigilance Group Kills 17 Boko Haram Members

A youth vigilance group in Lahou village, Borno state, reportedly killed seventeen members of the dreaded Boko Haram sect on Wednesday, August 12.

Apagu Bitrus, the leader of the group, who spoke to The Punch said the insurgents had attacked the village at about 4p.m. but were repelled.

He said: “We slew 17 militants on Wednesday evening when they invaded Lahou village and equally seized two vehicles from them.

[UPDATED] Helicopter Crash: Two Missing Victims Recovered Dead

The bodies of the remaining two persons missing from Wednesday’s Bristow helicopter crash in Lagos have been recovered by the search and rescue team, NAN reports.

A Correspondent of NAN who was at the crash site at the back of Oworosoki Police Station, reports that the bodies, recovered at about 10:25 a.m. on Thursday were that of a white man and a black.

The bodies were brought to the shore of the lagoon at 10:45 a.m.

6 Killed In Boko Haram Attack Near Maiduguri

At least six people have been killed during a raid by Boko Haram militants outside Nigeria’s northeastern city Maiduguri in Borno state, a police officer said on Wednesday.

 A Cameroonian soldier has also died during a cross-border incursion from neighbouring Nigeria by Boko Haram militants, a senior Cameroonian military source said.

In the fighting near Maiduguri, the militants entered Bale Mamman village to rustle livestock on Tuesday evening, police chief Aderemi Opadokun said. “Before the arrival of troops, six persons were shot dead,” he said.

80% Of Corruption In Nigeria Concentrated In Oil Sector

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) stated that country’s oil and gas sector accounts  about 80 % of the total corruption in Nigeria.

Chinedu Okoronkwo, the president of the association, said that his organization was largely involved in most of the corruption-related issues in the country.

He said if the federal government will stop oil corruption, then it would have been able to reduce corruption by 80%.
