Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesman, claimed 'there is a huge difference between us and the Taliban of 20 years ago', when female Afghans were beaten in the streets or publicly executed, denied work, healthcare and an education, and barred from leaving home without a male chaperone.

Gen. McKenzie, head of US Central Command, met with Taliban on Sunday to establish evacuation proposal


The American army led by General Frank McKenzie locked down Kabul airport after making a deal with the Taliban to allow evacuations from the airport without interference from the jihadists.


Gen. McKenzie is leading 6,000 US troops and 900 British soldiers who are trying to evacuate as many as 50,000 Afghan refugees and thousands of other foreign citizens including aid workers and diplomats who live in Kabul.
