►The owner of a company dealing in alcoholic drinks, Olaide Iyanuoluwa Nigeria Limited, on Tuesday dragged the Nigerian Police Force before a Federal High Court in Lagos for unlawful seizure of her alcoholic drinks worth about N38m.

►The dealer, who said the drinks were imported from the Benin Republic, told the court that the police seized them on the claim that they were stolen.

Armed robbery pays more than our jobs – Suspects

Two suspected armed robbers, Sikiru Oyebamiji and Afeez Salami, arrested by the Lagos State Police Command, said robbing people was more profitable than their legal job.

The duo was arrested in the Mushin area of Lagos and also found with a locally-made pistol.
They were nabbed by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad on Friday, July 31, around 12.30am when they were allegedly heading for an operation.

Ebola In Nigeria: FG Bans Inter-State Movement Of Corps

►The National Council on Health has banned   the transport   of corpses and critically ill persons on both local and international routes   with immediate effect.

►It said only dead bodies with waivers granted by the Federal Ministry of Health would be transported within and into Nigeria . Such corpses must be conveyed   only   in   ambulances.

Ebola: WBFA stresses importance of stronger health systems

►The Wellbeing Foundation Africa, WBFA, has noted that the current Ebola outbreak in the intersection of Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, does not come at much surprise, when one considers that Liberia and Sierra Leone have the worst doctor-patient ratios in West Africa.
►Currently, the WBFA notes, the doctor-patient ratios in Liberia and Sierra Leone stand at 86,275-to-1 and 45,588-to-1 respectively.

EFCC raises alarm as fraudulent developers swoop on Abuja

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, yesterday raised an alarm that unscrupulous elements posing as estate developers had taken over Abuja in a bid to swindle unsuspecting home seekers in the Federal Capital Territory.

The commission said it had to raise the alarm following the upsurge in the number of innocent persons who have already fallen victims to the conmen recently.

►Reports said the unidentified motorcyclist was attempting to carry his bike from the service lane (Custom side) of the expressway to the other side of the expressway to run against traffic because of the traffic congestion when he lost balance and fell under the tyre of an oncoming truck. He was instantly crushed to death.

Man Kills Mother for Using Witchcraft to Stall His Progress

A 29-year-old man, Ekene Ucheagwu, who killed his 65-year-old mother, Agnes in her home at Ogbunka in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State was yesterday paraded by men of the Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS, Awkuzu.

Ekene, a cobbler, said he had to kill his mother because she was using witchcraft to block the progress of her surviving four children.

FG saves N160bn from ghost workers

The federal government has saved about N160 billion through the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System, IPPIS. That money could have been stolen by corrupt civil servants through the ghost workers syndrome, the Accountant General of the Federation, AGF, Mr. Jonah Otunla, has disclosed.

“We have IPPIS which has helped save personnel cost. In fact as at December 2013 we have saved about N160 billion,” he said.
