At least 12 die as blast rips through a bus in Yobe

A blast ripped through a bus in Potiskum, Yobe state, on Tuesday. The explosion happened at the Tashar Dan-Borno motor park, on the outskirts of the city but rescuers could not immediately determine the number of casualties.

“The bus had just loaded with passengers on its way to Kano when a huge explosion happened inside the bus at exactly 11:40 am ” said a driver’s union official at the bus station. “We still don’t know how many people were affected.

Nigerian, other immigrants injured in Serbia van crash

Forty illegal immigrants from Bangladesh, Nigeria and Syria were injured, five seriously, when their van overturned Tuesday on a Serbian highway, state-run RTS television reported.

The accident occurred near Leskovac, some 300 kilometres (186 miles) south of Belgrade, when the van flipped and crashed into a field.

Anti-Boko Haram Nigerian activist wins Japan peace prize

A Nigerian woman who has campaigned against Islamist extremists Boko Haram was on Tuesday awarded a Japanese peace prize worth $170,000.
Esther Ibanga, a pastor and activist in Nigeria, has kept up a vocal protest against the kidnappings that Boko Haram has made almost routine, the Niwano Peace Foundation said.

The foundation said it had awarded her its 20 million yen annual prize because of the way she has tirelessly pressured central and local governing officials in her efforts to fight back against extremists.

Baga: Terrorist who disguised as woman caught

“Terrorists are now in disarray as they scamper to escape from the impact of air bombardment of their locations in the forest.

The Defence headquarters , Monday, disclosed that following the air and ground assault to flush out Boko Haram terrorists from Baga, its cordon and search operation has revealed some terrorists disguising as women.

A statement signed by Major General Chris Olukolade said, “The searches are also yielding more discoveries of arms especially bombs hidden in various locations, especially Baga town.

“Apart from those captured in the course of fighting, many arrests of terrorists hiding in the town are being made and troops are still busy interrogating the suspects.

Court fixes March 19 to hear 7 suits seeking to disqualify Buhari

The Abuja Division of the Federal High Court, yesterday, fixed March 19 to commence hearing on seven separate suits seeking to disqualify the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), from contesting the forthcoming general elections.
All the seven cases have been assigned to Justice Ademola Adeniyi who presided over two of the suits yesterday.

Meantime, both Buhari and the APC, who are defendants in the matter alongside the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, yesterday, maintained that they would not accept the service of the court processes which they said were not validly served on them.
