THE OUTGOING President Goodluck Jonathan lost his re-election bid several weeks before the March 28 poll to a web of plots hatched at home and honed abroad, Saturday Tribune has reliably learnt.
 Information also in possession of Saturday Tribune revealed a last-minute contest between forces that wanted him to bow out and those that wanted him to hold out for as long as necessary even when it was evident that the news from the field pointed at a possible defeat.
It was learnt that as of 5.00 p.m. on Tuesday, hawks around the president were still at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, piling pressure on him not to concede defeat. 
 
Those working on him to concede and bow out, reportedly led by a former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, were also said to have stayed put in the same Presidential Villa, persuading him that it was the most honourable way to go since it was clear that figures from the field were not in his favour.

David Mark Vows To Remain In PDP, Blasts Defectors

Chaos in Ekiti State

Armed policemen and soldiers took over strategic places in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital on Tuesday as the anti-impeachment protests by the Peoples Democratic Party members entered the second day.
The mayhem which also took place in Igede,   Itawure, Efon Alaaye, Iworoko, Aisegba, Ikere, Ise, Ogotun and Igbemo,   led to the death of one person, accidents and the closure of banks.

16 parties storm INEC, demand Rivers REC’s removal

Sixteen political parties from Rivers State stormed the national headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Abuja on Tuesday, asking for the immediate removal of the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Ms. Gesilia Khan.

They said the REC must not be allowed to conduct the Saturday governorship and the state House of Assembly elections in the state.

They also called for the removal of the Head of Operations at INEC, Mr. Bocco Ekong, for allegedly conniving with the REC to rig the elections in favour of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Forgive Akiolu and move on, Buhari tells Igbo

The President-elect, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has urged the Ndigbo and other non-indigenes in Lagos State to forgive all that has been said against them and move on for the sake of peace.

Buhari, Obasanjo hold secret meeting in Lagos

The President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, and former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Tuesday held a secret meeting in Lagos.

Our correspondent learnt that the meeting which held at the Presidential wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, lasted for almost an hour.

APC wins 214 House of Reps’ seats

The All Progressives Congress will firmly be in control of the 8th House of Representatives as the majority party with over 214 members.

There are a total of 360 seats in the second chamber of the National Assembly.

Figures emerging from the outcome of the March 28 National Assembly poll, show that APC members are now 214, against the Peoples Democratic Party, which has 125 lawmakers.

Jega sacks two EOs in Edo, says elections will hold in Orhiomwon & four LGAs

Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof.Atahiru Jega has sacked two Electoral Officers attached to Oredo and Orhiomwon Local Government Areas of Edo state in the March 28 Presidential and National Assembly elections over alleged involvement in the disappearance of result sheets provided for elections in those areas.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Edo State, Mr Mike Igini who disclosed this during a meeting with leaders of both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)

Man with earphone on killed by train in Lagos

An unidentified young man with earphone on, was on Wednesday killed by a passenger train at Cappa area of Oshodi, Lagos. 
 
The man was standing on the rail track oblivious of the fast approaching train. The Ogun-Lagos-bound mass transit train was leaving its Oshodi station to Mushin when the accident occurred.

Church razed, pastor’s daughter killed in Kano

At least one person died, Monday, as irate youths set ablaze Baptist Church at Gidan Maso village in Rogo Local Government Area of Kano State, while the residence of the pastor, Rev Habila Garba, was also burnt.

This came barely a week after unidentified arsonists attacked a branch of Living Faith Church, popularly called Winners Chapel, at Giwa in Kaduna State.

The deceased, one of the pastor’s daughters, was said to have died of suffocation as parts of the house were destroyed by the fire, which resulted from the attack at about 7:30p.m.

Major power outage sweeps Washington, White House

A power outage swept the Washington area Tuesday, hitting the White House, the Capitol and the State Department and knocking out electricity for thousands around the US capital.
Outages stretched from downtown Washington into neighboring Maryland, knocking power out for more than 2,500 people, according to area power companies.

Most outages were brief, but computer systems were downtown offices and access to Metro trains were disrupted.
