Boko Haram Kills Many In Borno’s Mainok Village Market

As Nigeria were still basking in the euphoria of the military success in Gulak, Adamawa state, news reaching us reveal that the joy has just been halted.

Reports have it that about a dozen traders were reportedly killed on Friday at a market in Mainok village of Kaga local government of Borno state when Boko Haram terrorists attacked.

Troops recover eight more towns in Yobe, Adamawa

The Director of Defence Information, Maj.-Gen Chris Olukolade, has said that troops have recaptured more towns from the members of the Boko Haram sect.
Olukolade said in a statement on Friday that the troops handed out a crushing defeat to the insurgents and recovered the headquarters of Gulani Local Government Area of Yobe State, Bara, and the headquarters of Madagali Local Government area, Gulag, from them in the early hours of Friday.

He said that the troops also flushed out terrorists from other locations such as Shikah, Fikayel, Tetebah, Buza, Kamla and Bumsa, during the two-day operation.

Certificate Saga: Farmer drags Buhari to court

A farmer from Abia State, Mr. Sergin Onuka Ibe‎ has approached the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, begging it not to allow Major General Muhammadu Buhari, rtd, to contest the March 28 presidential election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

‎The plaintiff, through his lawyer Mr. U.O. Ukairo,‎ prayed the court to invoke its original powers and compel ‎Buhari to not only withdraw from the presidential race, but to equally stop parading himself as a bonafide candidate for the poll.

He contended that the 1st defendant (Buhari), is not legally fit to vie for presidency in view of the pendency of a perjury charge against him.

Missing PVCs: Police Arrests 6 INEC Staff

The Abia State Police Command has arrested 6 staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abia State after the discovery of so many permanent voters’ card, (PVC), in the house of a criminal suspect in Isiala Ngwa South local government in the state.

A reliable source from INEC state office in Umuahia confirmed the arrest and told Vanguard that they were at the Police Criminal Investigation Department where they were undergoing interrogation.

The matter, the source revealed, has already been reported to the commission’s headquarters in Abuja and the affected cards already kept aside.

Buhari's Court Cases Over Certificate Controversies risen to 10

The number of court cases against the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) over his certificate controversies has risen to 10.
According to Punch, eight of the 10 confirmed suits are before the Federal High Court in Abuja, one before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Abuja and one other before the Federal High Court in Umuahia, Abia State.

The one before the Chief Magistrate’s Court, is seeking the trial of Buhari for alleged perjury for making a false claim on oath of possessing academic qualifications.

Boko Haram attacks force Canadian withdrawal in Niger

Canadian special forces participating in military training in southeast Niger, near the border with Nigeria, were ordered to withdraw recently to avoid battling with Boko Haram Islamists, the military said Thursday.
The troops had been posted to the town of Diffa, where the government of Niger declared a state of emergency on February 11 following attacks in the region that borders Boko Haram's stronghold in northeast Nigeria.

The Canadians are participating in US-sponsored counterterrorism training that started on February 16 and is due to wrap up on March 9.

Jonathan, PDP plotting to remove Jega says APC senators

Members of the All Progressives Congress in the Senate on Thursday   alleged that there was a fresh plot by the Federal Government to   prevent the   Independent National Electoral Commission Chairman,   Attahiru Jega, from superintending over the forthcoming general elections.


The APC senators, led by George Akume, told   a news conference in Abuja that they heard from a reliable source that the Head of Service would direct Jega to proceed on his pre-retirement leave next week.

I won’t grant amnesty to Boko Haram says Buhari

The All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari(retd.), on Thursday, ruled out amnesty for   Boko Haram insurgents if elected President on March 28.

27 die as suicide bombers hit Jos, Biu

Suicide bombers on Thursday attacked Jos, the Plateau State capital and Biu in Borno State and killed 27 people and injured many people.
In the Biu attack, 15 persons were killed, while 12 people lost their lives in the twin blasts at Jos.

According to an eyewitness, the suicide bomber detonated the bomb in front of one of the Filling Stations in Biu, a town that is about 160 kilometres from Maiduguri, the birthplace of Boko Haram insurgency.

A baby stolen from her sleeping mother’s arms shortly after birth has been found by the family through an astonishing coincidence 17 years later, South African police said Friday.

A 50-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with kidnapping after pupils noticed a remarkable likeness between the 17-year-old and her younger biological sister who started attending the same school this year.

DNA tests have confirmed that the older girl is the daughter of Celeste and Morne Nurse, who was snatched from Groote Schuur hospital as a three-day-old baby named Zephany in April 1997, local media reported.

ISIS to radicalise Nigerian youths schooling abroad, FG raises alarm

The Federal government, yesterday, alerted a plan by Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) to radicalise Nigerian youth, who were schooling abroad, calling on parents and guardians to monitor their wards closely.

Nigeria Suffers ‘Substantial’ Revenue Loss as Oil Prices Fall

Nigeria’s government revenue fell 15 percent in January as falling oil prices eroded the income of Africa’s biggest crude producer. 
Revenue fell to 416.1 billion naira ($2.1 billion) in January compared with 490 billion naira a month earlier, Accountant-General Jonah Otunla said Wednesday in an e-mailed statement. The volume of oil exports declined 33 percent in November and December, resulting in $159.88 million of lost revenue, Otunla said.

Nigeria has “suffered a substantial loss in revenue as a result of the massive drop in crude oil price at the international oil market,” he said.

More than 207 Boko Haram fighters killed by Chadian troops

Soldiers from Chad killed 207 Boko Haram fighters in clashes near a Nigerian town close to the border with Cameroon, Chad’s army announced in a statement.
One Chadian soldier was killed and another nine were wounded in Gambaru, the scene of regular attacks by the group in recent months. There was no immediate independent verification of the Chadian army’s announcement, reports a news agency.

Chad’s military also claimed to have seized large quantities of small arms and ammunition and two pick-up trucks on Tuesday.
