50 heads of state to attend Buhari’s inauguration

Nigeria’s Minister of Culture and Tourism, Chief Edem Duke, said on Friday that no fewer than 50 Heads of State and other delegates were being expected to attend the May 29 handing over ceremony.

Duke, while addressing a news conference in Abuja on the activities lined up for the inauguration of the new government, said that all the 54 countries in Africa had been invited to grace the occasion.

We won’t resign, PDP NWC members vow

The acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Uche Secondus, on Thursday insisted that he and other remaining members of the party’s National Working Committee would not resign.

Secondus said this after he led the NWC members   to a closed-door meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan.

The meeting was held inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja barely 24 hours after Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu and Chief Tony Anenih resigned as the party’s national chairman and the Board of Trustees chairman respectively.

Unpaid salaries: Strike imminent in 18 states

There are strong indications that workers in 18 states may start an indefinite strike on Monday over unpaid salaries.

The General Secretary of the NLC, Dr. Peter Ozo-Eson, in a telephone interview with our correspondent on Thursday in Abuja, said that the congress had sent its task force team to various geo-political zones of the country.

According to him, the strike has started in Plateau State, adding that a similar exercise will begin in Cross River State and others on Monday.

Jonathan’s acceptance of defeat averted crisis, says Buhari

The President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, has commended President Goodluck Jonathan for conceding defeat at the March 28 Presidential election.

The News Agency of Nigeria reported that Buhari gave the commendation in Abuja on Thursday when he received Nigerien President Issoufou Mahamadou on Thursday. He said Jonathan’s action turned around Nigeria’s nervous political process.

He said, “The Nigerien president purposely came to congratulate me on my victory and President Goodluck Jonathan for the maturity and statesmanship that he exhibited by accepting that he had lost the election.

Despite adopting several family planning strategies, a 52-year-old grandmother, Mrs. Funke Adamson, has ended up giving birth to a baby girl clutching white ‘Ileke’ (Yoruba name for beads) on her hands.

Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on Ado-Ekiti metropolis

Fayose, who arrived the state late Wednesday evening from Abuja, gave the order while addressing Hausa community at Atikankan area of Ado Ekiti, said the curfew began yesterday evening between 6pm and will last till 6am today.

Fayose equally ordered the security agencies to arrest whoever flouted the order.

Aggrieved commercial motorcyclists at Era area of Badagry, Lagos, have threatened to avenge the killing of their colleagues by motor park touts, otherwise known as agbero, during a fight over collection of levy on Tuesday.
