Soyinka: Buhari Now Different From The Man I Knew

Professor Wole Soyinka, the Nobel laureate, has described President Muhammadu Buhari as a different man from the man he knew while the retired general was in the military uniform on the Nigerian political landscape.

Soyinka said in his interview with Zero Tolerance, a periodic publication by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Buhari is the one who is ready to make amends for his past mistakes.

The House of Representatives on Tuesday, August 11, 2015, summoned the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, to explain the recent policy directing commercial banks to reject foreign currency deposits.

This followed the unanimous adoption of a motion under matters of urgent public importance sponsored by Rep. Emmanuel Ekon (Akwa-Ibom, PDP).

Ekon said that although the CBN Act of 2007 confers it with the power to devise a suitable mechanism for the exchange of the naira periodically, Nigerians need to understand the merits of the policy.

CBN faults banks on ATM cash withdrawal limits

The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, yesterday disagreed with the restructuring some banks have effected in their debit card, otherwise known as Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) services as well as some measures they introduced on foreign cash and e-payment transactions this week.

Some banks had early this week imposed N60,000 per day limit on ATM withdrawals while also limiting foreign currency withdrawal per day to $300.

A gigantic six-metre tiger shark's corpse has had its jaw stripped out to be kept as a trophy after it was hauled onto a fishing boat off the Australian coast over the weekend.
Geoff Brooks posted two images of the six metre apex predator to Facebook on Tuesday, claiming that the tiger shark was 'caught off 7 Mile Beach' near Lennox Head, on the northern New South Wales coast, at some stage last week.

Breaking News!! Over 50 Killed In Sabon Gari Market, Borno Bomb Blast

A bomb attack on a packed market in northeastern Nigeria bearing the hallmarks of Boko Haram killed around 50 people on Tuesday, sources said.

The explosion struck at around 1:30 p.m. (1230 GMT) in the town of Sabon Gari in Borno state, which is the heartland of the Islamist militant group.

“So far, 52 people are injured, 47 dead persons have been removed from the market,” Umar Kidda, a member of a civilian viligante group, told Reuters by phone.
