Why The Coming Election dividing Nigerian

President Goodluck Jonathan dismantled a historic power-sharing arrangement meant to bridge the country's divisions, and his current bid for re-election could now exacerbate tensions between north and south.

Jonathan is seeking a second term in Nigeria's presidential election, originally scheduled for Saturday but postponed last week until March 28 because of security concerns surrounding Boko Haram's insurgency in the northeast.

Jonathan dismissed allegations by Obasanjo 's vote rigging claim



IN Abuja - Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday dismissed allegations by ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo that he was plotting to rig rescheduled presidential elections next month.
  
A presidency statement said Obasanjo had accused Jonathan in the southwestern city of Abeokuta of plotting to win the March 28 vote by "hook and crook" and planning to plunge the nation into crisis if he lost.

Olusegun Obasanjo, has warned that incumbent president Goodluck Jonathan may be “going for broke” to hold on to the presidency in what would amount to a “coup”, after publicly endorsing opposition candidate Muhammadu Buhari for the first time.

Nigerian critics of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Jonathan have accused the security forces of a “coup against the constitution” by delaying the presidential election - originally scheduled for 14 February to 28 March. The vote was postponed by the electoral commission who argued that there was an inadequate security presence available for the election.
