Former UNILAG VC, Ade Ajayi dies at 85

Renowned historian and a former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof. Ade Ajayi, has passed on.

Although his family had not released an official statement as of 8 pm press time on Sunday, a reliable source said he died at the University College Hospital, Ibadan on Saturday.
Among scholars of his age and beyond, Ajayi was particularly respected for the thoroughness of his researches and the fact that he gave character to the study of African history.

FG not serious about fighting Ebola – Doctors, nurses

►The Lagos State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association and the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives have accused the Federal Government of not being proactive enough in the fight against the Ebola Virus Disease.

►The doctors and nurses said at separate news conferences in Lagos on Sunday, that the government had yet to put in place adequate measures to protect health workers willing to manage those infected by the deadly virus.

Nigerian Legion Seek To Join Fight Against Boko Haram

Fees reversal: Fashola counsels LASU students

Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State at the weekend urged students of the Lagos State University, LASU, to choose always the path of dialogue, negotiation and resolution in every situation, rather than confrontation.

Spanish priest infected with Ebola to receive experimental treatment

►A Spanish priest infected with Ebola will be treated with an experimental drug that has been used on two Americans infected with the deadly virus, the government said.

►The drug called ZMapp arrived at Madrid’s La Paz-Carlos III hospital where the 75-year-old missionary was being treated in isolation, the health ministry said in a statement late on Saturday.

Six suspected kidnappers paraded by DSS in Ebonyi

Wives, children stop military trucks conveying soldiers to fight Boko Haram

►Hundreds of women and children weekend forcefully stopped military trucks from conveying their husbands and fathers to the Boko Haram-seized Gwoza by locking the exit gates of a barracks in Borno State, demanding quality fighting equipment for the soldiers.

Ebola: Don't worry over Saudi Arabia’s visa suspension for W-Africa — Moslem leaders

Some leaders of the Nigerian Muslim Community has called for caution over the reported ban by Saudi Arabia on pilgrims from West African countries, following the death in that country of a patient, who contracted the Ebola Virus Disease, EVD, while he was on a business trip to Sierra Leone.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Wednesday, reportedly suspended pilgrimage visas for West Africa sub-region after World Health Organisation, WHO, and Saudi authorities confirmed the infection from tests that were conducted on samples from the victim.
