Rivers APC members shot as Buhari begins campaign

A member of the APC was killed, other seriously injured...

At least, one person was feared killed   and many others seriously injured when armed youths shot at vehicles conveying supporters of the All Progressives Congress from Asari-Toru and Khana Local Government Areas of Rivers State to the inaugural presidential campaign of Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).

The   attacks were said to have occurred at the same time (5.30am) as the party faithful made their way to the Adokiye Amasiemaka Stadium in Omagwa, Ikwerre Local Government Area.

Nine govs shun Jonathan campaign launch

Nine governors of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party on Tuesday shunned the inauguration of the Presidential Campaign Organisation of the party in Abuja.


The organisation, headed by a former National Chairman of the party, Senator Amadu Ali, is saddled with the responsibility of selling the candidature of President Goodluck Jonathan and his deputy, Alhaji Namadi Sambo, to Nigerians for the February 14 presidential election.

But only a handful of the governors were in attendance.

The All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has assured Nigerians that all corrupt politicians will end up in jail once he is elected into power.

Buhari, who gave the assurance on Tuesday during the APC rally and the presentation of the party’s governorship flag to Umana Umana as its candidate in Akwa Ibom State in Uyo, said he would close all loopholes through which money was being siphoned out of the country.

APC planned to hack into INEC database -DSS

The Department of State Services has said that its investigations indicated that the All Progressives Congress had plans to hack into the database of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The service explained that the confessions from the staff arrested at the APC office at 10,Bola Ajibola Street, Ikeja, and the items retrieved from the building showed that the party had an elaborate plan to hack into the commission’s database and inflate the number of its membership.

JUDICIARY STRIKE: Chief Registrar chased away from court premises

The strike action embarked upon by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, JUSUN, took a disturbing turn yesterday as the striking union officials chased away the Chief Registrar to the Lagos State High Court and locked out Judges from their courtrooms.

Inquest suffers setback
The strike action also took its toll on the ongoing coroner’s inquest investigating the causes of multiple death at the Synagogue Church of All Nations, SCOAN, guest house last year.

Oil spill: Shell to pay Ogoni community N16.6bn

The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited, SPDC, yesterday said it has agreed to pay the Bodo Community in Ogoniland, Rivers State, the sum of £55 million (about N16.6 billion) (N300 to £1) as compensation for damages caused by two oil spills in 2008.

Shell said in a statement made available to Chat212 that the bulk of the money, about £35 million will, be paid to individuals who agree on the settlement terms, while the balance of £20 million will be for the benefit of the general community.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, yesterday, rebuffed entreaties to postpone next month’s round of elections, saying it was financially and mentally set for the polls.

The commission, nevertheless, affirmed that the go-ahead for elections in the troubled Northeast would be given by security agencies.
