SURE-P Engages 7,000 Graduates

 
The Federal Government has engaged 7,000 graduates under its SURE-P Graduate Internship Scheme (GIS).
The Chief Project Officer of SURE-P, Mr Istifanus Bargo, said this at a three-day orientation programme for interns and firms under GIS.
Bargo explained that over 170,000 graduates had registered in the scheme’s database of which 7,000 had been matched with firms.

Crisis claimed 631 Nigerians in July— INTER-SOCIETY

Society for Civil Liberties and the Rule of Law, Intersociety, has called for an end to the bloodletting in some parts of the country, noting that 631 Nigerians were killed in the month of July alone.

Chairman of Intersociety, a civil society group, Mr. Emeka Umeagbalasi in a statement, yesterday, added that so far, over 4, 749 Nigerians have been killed by the combination of Boko Haram and Funali herdsmen.
It said “In furtherance of our local and international campaigns for an end to ceaseless killings in northern Nigeria in the name of politics, ethnicity and religion, it is our shocking discovery that the insurgency under reference has led to the criminal death of at least 631 citizens in July 2014 alone.

US surveillance flights spot kidnapped Chibok girls

►Recent U.S. surveillance flights over northeastern Nigeria showed what appeared to be large groups of girls held together in remote locations, raising hopes among domestic and foreign officials that they are among the group that Boko Haram abducted from a boarding school in April, U.S. and Nigerian officials said.
►The surveillance suggests that at least some of the 219 schoolgirls still held captive haven’t been forced into marriage or sex slavery, as had been feared, but instead are being used as bargaining chips for the release of prisoners.

Ebola fear spreads as six feared to have tested positive

THERE were fears, yesterday, that six of the eight primary contacts of the late Patrick Sawyer, may have tested positive to the Ebola virus, but are yet to show signs of the disease.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Government has said that the seven remaining primary contacts currently in quarantine are showing no signs of the Ebola Virus Disease, EVD.
