Ebola: NMA rejects Sept 22 schools’ resumption date

Police Nab Armed Robbery, Kidnap Syndicate In Enugu

THE Enugu State Police Command has arrested nine persons suspected to be members of armed robbery and kidnap gangs operating in the state.

Five of them that allegedly belong to an armed robbery gang were apprehended while planning a robbery operation in Enugu while the four suspected kidnappers were nabbed in their hideout after a gun duel with operatives of the Anti-kidnapping Unit of the state command, which left some of the suspects fatally injured.

Only 500000 jobs created in first 6 months of the year

The latest job creation figure released by the National Bureau of Statistics, NBS, yesterday showed that the economy created 500,224 jobs across the country in the first six months of 2014.

The figure was announced by the Statistician-General of the Federation, Dr. Yemi Kale, at a workshop organised by the NBS for the review of definition and methodology for computing unemployment statistics in Nigeria.

B-HARAM: Former President Obasanjo's Son Shot In Mubi By Boko Haram

►Son of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Lt Col Adeboye Obasanjo, an army engineer at the 3rd Division in Jos, Plateau State was shot yesterday by Boko Haram terrorists as he led soldiers on an offensive to reclaim Michika town in Adamawa State which fell into the hands of the insurgents. Twenty four soldiers were also reportedly killed during the encounter in which Lt Col Obasnjo was said to be seriously injured.

►The Defence Headquarters did not respond to inquiries seeking confirmation of the incident but a reliable military source, who confirmed the story, said the injured Obasanjo was receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital inYola, the state capital.

How it happened: I was raped by soldier for 5 hours under a tree — Student

A 23-year-old National Diploma, ND, student of Mass Communication Department, Ibarapa Polytechnic, yesterday, narrated how she was raped under a tree by one of the security men attached to Operation Burst set up by Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State to check criminality in the state.

The incident was said to have happened in Eruwa from 10.30 pm on August 29 this year while she was returning after seeing off a friend.
