Anambra NMA wants doctors out of Ebola control c’ttee

►Anambra State chapter of Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, has advised chief medical directors and medical directors in the state to withdraw their membership of the committee set up on Ebola virus control, if the Government failed to rescind last weekend’s sack of resident doctors.

►The advice came as the state police command restricted the demonstration of NMA members in the state, including the Association of Resident Doctors, ARD, at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, NAUTH, Nnewi,  only to the NAUTH premises.

Oil subsidy: EFCC recovers N5bn

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, says it has so far recovered about N5 billion from persons and organisations indicted in the fuel subsidy scam.

The agency’s Head, Media and Publicity, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, said this during a town hall meeting on fuel subsidy organised by Africa Network of Economic and Environment Justice, ANEEJ, in collaboration with Justice for All, J4A, in Abuja.

Insurgency: 6m displaced in N/E of Nigeria — NCFRM

The Federal Government, yesterday, said Nigeria has over 600,000 Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, from the North East of the country alone, since the insurgency started in 2011.

The Commissioner, National Commission for Refugees, Migrants  and IDPs, NCFRMI, Hajia Hadiza Kangiwa, stated this while briefing journalists on the programmes lined up for 2014 World Humanitarian Day in Abuja, tagged, ‘Become a Messenger of Humanity.”
She said the number of IDPs in Nigeria was increasing daily because of the continued insurgency in the North East of Nigeria.

Ebola Latest: 3 new cases dectected as 4 more victims are discharged

►IT was a case of mixed fortunes for the nation, yesterday, in the management of the Ebola Virus Disease as three fresh cases were discovered, while four of those earlier admitted at the isolation centre in Lagos were discharged.

►Lagos State Health Commissioner, Dr. Jide Idris, who confirmed the emergence of three new cases, remarked: “As at yesterday, (Sunday), we had three new suspected cases. One of them is a blood sample from Kaduna State, while the two others are from Lagos and they are primary contacts. A reason for this was that they do not have the laboratory to test for the virus.

The women under the aegis of Bushmeat Sellers Association lamented that since the announcement that the deadly disease could be caused by eating bush meat, spell had been cast on their sales.
