As the presidential election draws nearer with the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) having intensified campaign rallies in parts of the country, some suspected political thugs of the PDP were pictured causing damage in the Ikorodu area of Lagos state on Monday.

Finally! Jega Addresses Plan To Resign

With the 2015 elections just around the corner, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, has denied allegations that he is under pressure to resign.

The INEC chairman made this known at a town hall meeting organized by REINVENT Media and some stakeholders in Abuja today, March 16, 2015.

Speaking with newsmen, Jega said the protests and calls for his resignation by some groups would not discourage the commission from delivering a free and fair election to Nigerians.

Gunmen Kidnap Cross River Ex- Deputy Speaker

Report just reaching us from Calabar, Cross River State reveals that Gunmen have kidnapped the former deputy Speaker of the state’s House of Assembly.

Hon. Dominic Edem, who is also the Labour Party House of Representatives candidate in the State was said to have been abducted at his residence in Calabar at about 8pm on Sunday night.

The victim’s aide who spoke on condition of anonymity said the gunmen fired several gun shots to scare people before taking him away.

APC blasts PDP over abandoned Enugu Int’l Trade Fair

The All Progressives Congress, APC, weekend, took a swipe at the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,over Federal Government’s failure to construct the permanent site of Enugu International Trade Fair complex six years on. 
The federal government had designated Lagos, Kaduna and Enugu,International Trade Fair complexes but had completely constructed that of Lagos and Kaduna, leaving Enugu untouched.

Spokesperson of APC in the South-East geopolitical zone,Mr. Osita Okechukwu, wondered why President Goodluck Jonathan should treat Ndigbo with levity.

APC exposes plan by Jonathan govt to sabotage card readers on election day

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has exposed the plan by the Jonathan Administration and the PDP to render card readers ineffective on election day, with a view to justifying their fears about the use of the card readers and ultimately to scuttle the polls.

”We can authoritatively inform Nigerians that the morbid fear of card readers by the Jonathan Administration and the PDP has now been translated into concrete action: They have hired an Israeli, Gyora Berger, to do the dirty job of jamming the card readers,” the party said in a statement issued in Lagos on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.

UTME: Two Arrested for malpractices

Two candidates that sat, weekend, for the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination UTME computer base test have been arrested by the security agents for alleged malpractices during the test.
The candidates were arrested at Esa-Oke, in Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State. The candidates were alleged to have conspired with one Mr. Adebayo a.k.a Awolowo, the owner of Awolism Educational Consultant to perpetrate the unlawful act.

It was learnt that the candidates committed the offense during the computer based test at Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke.

Schoolgirls Abducted By Boko Haram Could Have Been Rescued, Says Former President

Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan’s corrupt and incompetent government failed to act quickly enough to save more 200 schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram last year, former President Olusegun Obasanjo said.

He said the government did not recognize the threat Boko Haram posed until it was too late, calling the reaction "lukewarm at best.” Jonathan took 18 days to contact the governor of the province from which the girls had been taken, he added.

Senate summons CBN, AMCON over Cecilia Ibru’s assets

The Senate Committee on Drugs, Narcotics, Financial Crimes and Anti-corruption has summoned the management of the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria to appear before it over seized assets worth N150bn.

The two federal government agencies had seized the assets in property and cash from the erstwhile Managing Director of the defunct Oceanic Bank International Plc, Mrs. Cecilia Ibru, upon her conviction for fraud by a court of law.

Fire guts INEC office

With less than two weeks to the March 28 presidential and national assembly elections, an overnight fire on Saturday gutted the warehouse of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) located at its Electoral Institute on Abuja Airport road.
Meanwhile, INEC has reassured that the fire incident will not affect the forthcoming 2015 general elections, even as it insisted that only the electoral materials used in the 2011 elections were destroyed by the inferno.
