Boko Haram kidnaps at least 60 in deadly Cameroon attack

►Boko Haram fighters have kidnapped at least 60 people in a deadly attack in northern Cameroon, police said, in the latest cross-border raid by the Nigeria-based Islamist group.
►The assault on Sunday came a day after neighbouring Chad deployed troops to combat Boko Haram in Cameroon and Nigeria, as part of a regional bid to combat the insurgents.

►The militants "burst into two villages in the Tourou area... They torched houses and left with around 60 people. Most of them were women and children," a police officer told AFP.

Two Stabbed in Oworoshoki APC Rally

The All Progressive Congress, (APC) rally in the Oworonshoki area of Lagos State on Monday fled as thugs invaded the rally, stabbing two youths in the process.

The violence was reportedly caused by a supremacy battle between two rival cults based in the Bariga area of the state and policemen were folding their arms as the thugs’ unleashed mayhem.

Journalists, who were covering the event, clustered on the platform to avoid being caught in the crossfire.

2 children drown, hunter shot in Enugu

Police in Enugu, yesterday, confirmed the death of two children at a stream located at New Government Reserved Area axis of Trans Ekulu layout in Enugu.

A statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, said the two children, Emeka Nwafor, 7, and Nmesoma Nwafor, 4, were found dead in the stream on January 13.

It said the remains of the children had been deposited at a hospital for autopsy, as investigation was continuing.

Soldiers rescue 14 pregnant teenagers, 8 children in Abia

►Soldiers from 144 Battalion, Asa, in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State have rescued 14 pregnant teenagers and eight children from a motherless babies’ home at Umunkpeyi Nvosi in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area.

►Also arrested by the soldiers were six young men, who claimed to be staff of the home, and two girls, aged 16 and 25.

►However, the proprietress of the home, Mrs. Nma Charity, is still at large.

The Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Attahiru Jega has said that the penchant by the Nigerian politicians to cut corners at the expense of the acceptable convention posed a major impediment to free and fair election in the country.

2015 Election: IBB backs Buhari

Nigeria’s former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida (ret), yesterday, endorsed the presidential aspiration of General Muhammadu Buhari, saying the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate was suitably positioned to salvage the country.

Babangida who received Buhari in his Minna, Niger State residence also said the country’s retired generals would back Buhari being one of their own. He dismissed as fable, media insinuations of a feud between him and Buhari.
