Fire destroys 350 make-shift buildings in Lagos

AT least350 make-shift buildings were, Wednesday night, engulfed by fire in Ajah area of Lagos, barely 16 hours after the Ijeh Police barracks in Lagos went up in flames, rendering 24 families of policemen homeless.

The fire was said to have been caused by an explosion from a power generating set at about 10.45p.m.

Shippers’ Council, NAC Partner To Re-fleet Rickety Cargo Trucks

 The National Auto-motive Council (NAC) and the Nigerian Shipper Council (NSC) are set to re-fleet cargo carrying trucks and phase out the old and rickety ones currently in use at the ports.

In an exclusive interview with Chat212, the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers ’Council, Mr. Hassan Bello disclosed this at recently concluded members night of the Nigerian Chamber of Shipping saying that the reason behind the re-fleeting project was bring about standardization in the trucking sub-sector.

THE outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease, EVB, in some countries in Africa is beginning to have an impact on the shipment of rice and other agricultural products from far away as Asia, with Thailand’s rice industry being the first to experience a serious impact.

Africa is a major market for Thailand’s rice, but the industry is finding it difficult to meet demand.
Exporters in Bangkok say Africa consumes nine million tons of rice annually and two-thirds of it is imported. But they are currently unable to ship much of their crop to West African ports.

►THE Delta State Police Command, yesterday, announced the arrest of a suspected kidnapper, Chukwuemeka, aka Hawkins, who abducted the wife of a lecturer at Delta State University, Abraka, Mrs. Roseline Okolie and one Chief Patience Anigala, sometime ago.

72-year-old Dutch woman loses N40.6m to Nigerian internet fraudster

A 31-year-old internet fraudster, Adio Opeyemi Michael, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for defrauding a 72-year-old Dutch woman of €200,000 (about N40.6 million) in a romance scam.

The suspect, who is a native of Owu Local Government Area of Ogun State, was said to have met his victim, identified simply as Jeanet De Jonge, on Netlog dating site and pretended to be a 41-year-old American citizen working as a chef in a Nigerian restaurant and needs a wife.

How INEC'll check poll violence in 2015, by Jega

NATIONAL CHAIRMAN of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, yesterday, enumerated reasons elections are violence-prone and outlined the measures the commission has put in place to make the 2015 elections violence-free.

B'Haram: Femi Falani gives FG 7-day ultimatum to prosecute Sheriff

Lagos-based fiery lawyer, Femi Falani, has given the Federal Government seven days to prosecute the former Borno State Governor, Senator Ali Modu Sherriff, for allegedly sponsoring Boko Haram or face his wrath.

The human rights lawyer made it clear that he would personally apply for an order or mandamus for Sherriff and others to be investigated and be prosecuted after the expiration of the week-long ultimatum.
