Card Readers: How Abuja court aborted last minute move to stop ‎election

Last minute move by a Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, from Ogun state,‎ Mr. Walihu Taiwo‎, to secure an interim order of injunction stopping the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, from using the Smart Card Reader Machines for the presidential election, crumbled yesterday.
The application which was filed before the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court, was refused by Justice Ademola Adeniyi.iNEC-CARD

The court however summoned both INEC and the Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, Mr. Mohammed Bello Adoke, SAN, who were cited as defendants in the suit, to appear before it on April 24.

President Goodluck Jonathan has called on all Nigerians to come out en masse on saturday and vote for the candidate of their choices in the Presidential and National Assembly Elections.

In a nationwide broadcast friday morning, President Jonathan assured Nigerians that all necesary steps have been taken to ensure the safety of Nigerians as they discharge their civic responsibilities.

The president warned that government will not tolerate any attempt by any individual or group to take laws in to their hands as security agencies have been directed to ensure peace before, during and after the elections.

Polls: Security beef up in Delta

Security has been beefed up in Delta State, ahead of tomorrow’s presidential and National Assembly elections. 
 
Police officers and other security operatives were seen in strategic positions, perhaps to forestall breakdown of law and order before, during and after the elections. 
 
Contacted on the security beef up in the state, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Usman Akali, said 11,000 police officers have been deployed in the state for the elections.

PDP’s N650m Campaign Fund Disappears

About N650 million President Goodluck Jonathan allegedly donated to one of the groups campaigning for his re-election at the Trade Fair Complex in Lagos State, western Nigeria was reportedly declared missing on Thursday.

"The whole world is asking why the Nigerian army, which is a big army... is not in a position to stand up to untrained kids armed with Kalashnikovs," Deby told French magazine Le Point, in an interview published this week.

Jonathan asks court to set aside order barring soldiers from elections

President Goodluck Jonathan, has asked the Court of Appeal, sitting in Lagos, to set aside the Federal High Court order, which restrained him from deploying soldiers to assist the police in providing security during the general elections, which is starting tomorrow across the country.
The judge at the lower court, Justice Ibrahim Buba, had in the suit by a House of Representatives member, Femi Gbajabiamil held that the President cannot deploy soldiers without the National Assembly’s approval.

2011 and 2015: What has changed for Jonathan and Buhari?

The two major contenders in the Saturday presidential election are  no strangers to each other.
