The Nigerian Senate has approved an amendment to the constitution which will empower the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister any political party which fails to win any seat, be it at the Federal or State level.

At Wednesday’s plenary, lawmakers, looked at areas up for review in the 1999 constitution that deals with the Electoral Act.

The Niger State government has force out over 200 members of a radical and controversial Islamic sect, Nibrassiya Huda Islamic Sect from Chechei, Lapai Local Government Area of the state.

At the secret site on Wednesday, the leader of the Hamdala Mibassiya sect, Sheik Mohammed Abubakar, with over 200 members said the members of the sect had come together only for the purpose of learning more of Islam and without any other motive.

In a statement by its President, Abdulwaheed Omar, NLC equally implored the National Assembly to investigate how the monetary allocations to the military in recent times were being spent.

►The insurgents were also said to have killed scores of people   in Amuda and Ngoshe as well as Attagara,where they shot nine worshippers to death in EYN Church on Sunday. Thirty seven of the attackers were however killed by Attagara villagers who mobilised and confronted them.

Nigeria Police denied issuing any protest banning order

Nigerian police say peaceful rallies to demand the release of more than 200 schoolgirls seized by Islamist militants will be allowed, after earlier banning them.

But campaigners were warned to exercise caution during protests.

Abuja police commissioner Joseph Mbu said the rallies were "now posing a serious security threat".

But a day later, another police statement denied issuing any protest banning order, insisting that they had only released an "advisory notice".
