INEC begins collation of presidential, national assembly elections’ results

The Independent National Electoral Commission in Rivers State has begun the collation of results of Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections.

Top officials of the commission, international observers and party agents, including Deputy Governor, Tele Ikuru, and the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, Nyesom Wike, are currently at INEC’s conference room, where results of the polls are being collated.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Gesila Khan, is also present.

Islamic Group Warns INEC Against Repetition Of June 12

In a reaction to the alleged delay in the announcement of Saturday’s, March 28, Presidential and House of Assembly elections across the country, an Islamic group has issued an urgent warning to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) spokesman, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, who spoke with National Mirror correspondent on Sunday commended Nigerians for showing high-level patriotism by coming out en masse to cast their votes.

Polls: Tension as results trickle in

The nation was in suspense, yesterday, as results from last Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections continued to trickle in.

At press time, only Ekiti and Osun States had fully declared results of the elections. President Goodluck Jonathan, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP won all 16 local government areas of Ekiti but lost in Osun.

Impose curfew in volatile areas before releasing election results - CAN

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has advised that adequate security measures be put in place in volatile areas across the country before the announcement of election results.

Rev. Shuaibu Byel, the CAN Chairman, North East Zone, made the suggestion in an interview, in Bauchi State yesterday.

Byel said the measure would help in averting post-election violence, especially with regard to the outcome of the presidential election.

Woman stabs husband to death over PDP, APC presidential candidates

Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old pregnant woman who allegedly stabbed her husband to death during a quarrel over who would emerge winner between the Peoples Democratic Party and All Progressives Congress, APC presidential candidates, while voting was on-going , weekend, at Ejigbo area of the state.
The incident, which threw the densely populated area into disarray, occurred at about 12noon inside the couple’s one room apartment at 81 Military zone junction.
