Roman Abramovich told Chelsea's under-performing players that he didn't want to sack Jose Mourinho during an address at their Cobham training ground this afternoon. Abramovich was on site to watch this morning's session, taken by Steve Holland and Eddie Newton, ahead of Saturday's clash with Sunderland at Stamford Bridge. The Chelsea owner spoke to the players in his native Russian and it was all translated into English.

Abramovich, who fired Mourinho on Thursday at the club's training ground, told the players he had been reluctant to sack the most successful manager in the club's history.

House Of Rep Invetigates Fund Management In Obasanjo's Tenure

The House of Representatives has started investigations into how a $5m grant given to the Lake Chad Basin Commission during the administration of former president Olusegun Obasanjo was spent.

The Punch reports that the House on Thursday, December 17, noted that the money was meant to carry out study on how to direct rivers to the lake but nothing came out of it.
