Amaechi of Rivers state has ruled out heeding a tweet by the Minister of State II for Foreign Affairs, Musiliu Obanikoro, requesting the Governor to emulate his gesture in congratulating the Governor-Elect of Lagos State by doing same for the Rivers Governor-Elect, Nyesom Wike. He said that he will never accept the electoral victory of Wike, who was the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Rivers because the election was a daylight robbery.

INEC Fixes April 25 For Re-Run Election In Imo State

As a result of the alleged electoral irregularities reportedly experienced in the Imo State governorship and state house of assembly elections of last Saturday, April 11, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed a new date for the re-run elections in the state.

This was made known to NAN on Wednesday in Owerri by the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Gabriel Ada.

Ada said the electoral umpire had fixed April 25 for re-run of the 2015 Governorship and some constituencies in the state House of Assembly elections.

Senator defends Jonathan’s rejection of Constitution Amendment

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Rules and Business, Ita Enang, has described President Goodluck Jonathan’s refusal to sign the 2015 round of Constitution Amendment Bill as another act of “statesmanship”.

Report: How Boko Haram exploits, rapes abducted girls

Human Rights group, Amnesty International, on Tuesday said no fewer than 2,000 women and girls have been abducted by Islamist group Boko Haram in the past 15 months.

The group, which said this is in a report based on almost 200 witness accounts, added that many of victims were being trained to fight.

“Young women and girls are abducted, imprisoned and in some cases raped, forcibly married and made to participate in armed attacks, sometimes on their own towns and villages,’’ the group said.
