Today Taliban had vowed to allow remaining people to leave

Taliban promises it will give a 'safe passage' to people trying to leave the country after Tuesday's deadline - as 1,000 Afghans and 150 remain behind

to allow remaining people to leave

The UK Government today said it had received assurances from the Taliban that anybody wishing to leave Afghanistan after August 31 will be allowed to do so.

UK troops have already left Kabul and US military personnel will be out of Afghanistan before the August 31 deadline set by US President Joe Biden.

But there have been fears over the potentially thousands of Afghans who may have been eligible for resettlement schemes, who could not make it to Kabul airport for evacuation or were not processed in time.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Sunday that if the Taliban regime wanted diplomatic recognition and aid funding, they would have to ensure "safe passage" for those who want to leave

And in a joint statement with the US and more than 90 other countries, it was confirmed that the Taliban had said anyone who wished to leave the country could do so.

The joint statement said: "We have received assurances from the Taliban that all foreign nationals and any Afghan citizen with travel authorisation from our countries will be allowed to proceed in a safe and orderly manner to points of departure and travel outside the country

ISIS rockets fired at US were brought down by defence systems. There were no US casualties

Rockets are fired at Kabul airport as US troops race to evacuate: Attack follows American drone strike on ISIS-K that killed three children and other civilians after setting off jihadists' explosives

At least five rockets have been fired at Hamid Karzai airport in the Afghan capital of Kabul this morning, a US official said, with most intercepted by missile defence systems. There are currently no reports of US casualties but that information may change, the official added, saying it is not clear whether all of the rockets were intercepted. It is just the latest attack on the airfield after an ISIS-K suicide bomber blew themselves up at a military checkpoint last week, killing 170 people including 13 US Marines, before an American drone strike thwarted what was believed to be a group of ISIS-K suicide bombers preparing to launch another bomb attack on Sunday. The strike hit two cars filled with explosives sitting outside a house to the north of the airfield, triggering a secondary explosion which killed at least three children and left other civilians wounded

US has lunch an air strike on ISIS stronghold that kills man believed to be mastermind

US has lunch an air strike on Afghanistan ISIS stronghold that kills man believed to be mastermind behind Kabul airport bombing that left 13 US troops and 170 Afghans dead

The Pentagon has launched a drone strike in the Islamic State's stronghold in eastern Afghanistan, killing a man believed to be involved in planning Thursday's Kabul airport bombing.

The  drone hit an ISIS-K member in Nangahar province, U.S. Central Command said

U.S. official told Reuters the strike was approved by President Joe Biden

The retaliation came less than 48 hours after a devastating suicide bombing claimed by the group killed as many as 170 Afghans and 13 American service members at the Kabul airport.. .

The strike killed one individual, and spokesman Navy Capt. William Urban said they knew of no civilian casualties.

US military 'conducted an over-the-horizon counterterrorism operation today against an ISIS-K planner,' Urban said.

'The unmanned airstrike occurred in the Nangahar Province of Afghanistan. Initial indications are that we killed the target. We know of no civilian casualties

It wasn't clear if that individual was involved specifically in the Thursday suicide blast outside the gates of the Kabul airport, where crowds of Afghans were desperately trying to get in as part of the ongoing evacuation from the country after the Taliban's rapid takeover

Four US Marines are thought to be among the 40 people killed in an 'ISIS suicide' bomb attack outside Kabul airport today. Jihadists are believed to be behind the two blasts outside the gates of Kabul airport, where thousands of Afghans were awaiting evacuation. The horrifying disaster - which comes after warnings by US and UK officials of an 'imminent' attack by terror group ISIS-K - could now spark an immediate to the West's frantic evacuation efforts in Afghanistan. It was then followed by gunfire and mass panic before a second explosion ripped through a crowd of Afghans gathered at the Abbey Gate of the Hamid Karzai airport.

President Joe Biden has been briefed on the blast, one of which ripped through a crowd of Afghans gathered at the Abbey gate of the Hamid Karzai airport, and another which hit Barons Hotel, followed by gunfire amid the mass panic. Tinubu supporters Angry With Buhari, For Releasing Pictures Showing Ex-Lagos Governor With Walking Stick In the photos, Tinubu

Buhari Leaves UK For Nigeria After Visiting Ailing Tinubu...

The President visited the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, who is recuperating after a second surgery in the United Kingdom.

Tinubu, Aides Angry With Buhari, Presidency For Releasing Pictures Showing Ex-Lagos Governor With Walking Stick

In the photos, Tinubu was seen leaning on a walking stick as he posed for shots with the President.

The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, and his close aides are not happy with the pictures released by the Presidency showing the former Lagos State Governor with a walking stick when President Muhammadu Buhari visited him in London, United Kingdom (UK), a source told SaharaReporters on Friday.

Presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad posted some photos on Facebook on Thursday and captioned them, “President Muhammadu Buhari this evening in London, the United Kingdom, visited Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

In the photos, Tinubu was seen leaning on a walking stick as he posed for shots with the President.

Tinubu and his people are not happy that President Buhari brought NTA (Nigerian Television Authority- government-owned station) and others to visit him,” a source told SaharaReporters.

“When Lagos governor, (Babajide) Sanwo-Olu and (Abiodun) Faleke (federal lawmaker) visited him, nothing revealed he had a surgery or was sick. But the way Buhari had his photo ops handled by the Villa was not what he (Tinubu) bargained for.

They felt betrayed that such pictures showing him with a walking stick would be released. Note that all the pictures were released by the Presidency.”

SaharaReporters had on Monday reported that Tinubu underwent a second knee surgery at the John Hopkins University Hospital in Maryland, US.

The APC chieftain, it had been learnt, left the US for the United Kingdom on crutches, a few days after the surgery.

“Tinubu had his second surgery at John Hopkins University in Maryland recently. He was accompanied by a popular Nigerian doctor in Chicago,” a source had said.

He had wanted the surgery in Paris but when rumour was rife about his death, he hurriedly left for Nigeria and went to John Hopkins. He left the US for the UK on crutches.”

SaharaReporters had on July 31 reported that Tinubu, who has had several medical trips this year alone, had a surgery about two weeks earlier and could be billed for another one.

The APC National Leader has been off official and party functions in the country for a while, amidst talks that he is being positioned for the 2023 presidency to succeed the incumbent repressive regime of Buhari.

“Tinubu is hospitalised in Maryland, US. His health is failing. He couldn’t participate in launching his Arewa library, and he couldn’t participate in the Local Government Area elections last week. He could not attend today’s APC congress due to health reasons.

“He had a surgery last week,” an authoritative source had disclosed.

A few days after the story, photographs of Tinubu hosting Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos state in London surfaced where the duo were seen together in a room.

Reports have it that the meeting was held to put an end to speculations surrounding the APC National Leader’s health status.

In January 2021, Tinubu was also reported sick and hospitalised in Paris, France.

Tinubu had earlier complained of exhaustion and travelled out to rest before the news of his collapse went viral.

He was flown to Paris for medical attention in the first week of January.

SaharaReporters had on June 15 reported that Tinubu was also in Paris, battling with some old age ailment.

“Tinubu is in Paris, France for a medical checkup. His health is deteriorating. Old age and other stuff, but he still wants to be president. This could mean another medical tourism presidency for our country,” a top source had at that time revealed.

SaharaReporters had reported the conspicuous absence of Tinubu during the one-day working visit of President Buhari to inaugurate various projects in Lagos State.

Earlier, the President’s spokesman, Garba Shehu, had tried to downplay the obvious rift between the two leaders and their camps, saying the interview the President granted to Arise Interview where he mentioned Lagos was not about Tinubu.

“You cannot sit there in Lagos, for instance, and decide on the fate of APC on zoning,” Buhari had said while responding to a question during the interview.

“The hope of this administration is to see APC last beyond it. Therefore we should allow the party to decide. The restructuring of the party has begun from the bottom to the top with the membership card registration. Every member of the party must be involved. We will soon conduct our convention. No single member of the party will be allowed to go against the wish of the party.”

Shehu had maintained that there was no rift between the two leaders and that the reference to Lagos had nothing to do with Tinubu.
