Prof. Wole Soyinka Denies Involvement In Saraki’s Lawyer “Anatomy Of Corruption” Book Launch

Wole Soyinka has denied any involvement in a book launch scheduled for today in Ladi Kwali Hall at the Sheraton Hotel in Abuja.

The book titled “Anatomy of Corruption” is being launched by Yusuf Ali SAN, a high profile lawyer to Nigeria’s Senate President Bukola Saraki. Mr. Ali is one of the 90 lawyers defending Mr. Saraki before the Code of Conduct Tribunal over allegations of false assets declaration and corrupt enrichment.

Prof. Soyinka was listed as the “Guest Speaker” , however, speaking from the US yesterday, Prof. Soyinka told SaharaReporters that he was unaware of such engagement and that he could not have accepted to be at the event when he had been booked to speak over three days at a lecture series for another literary giant, Toni Morrison at Princeton University.

Apart from Professor Soyinka, Mr. Ali’s book launch is expected to be chaired by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, while the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is listed as the “Chief Guest.”

Chairman of Skye Bank, Tunde Ayeni is book presenter while Prof. Ademola Popoola will be the book reviewer.

Nigerians have reacted to the book launch as an irony considering that Mr. Ali name pops up in defense of persons charged with corruption, bribery and money laundering. The lawyer is the chair of the “Anti-Corruption Committee” of the Nigerian Bar Association.
