Senate orders investigation into sealing of Akwa Ibom State Assembly

Meanwhile, the Senate wednesday ordered a thorough investigation into the alleged invasion of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.

Its Committee on Police headed by Senator Tijani Kaura (Zamfara North) has, therefore, been given a 48-hour ultimatum to urgently look into the reported police seal up of the assembly and report back to the Senate.

This is sequel to a motion moved by Senator Albert Akpan (PDP-Akwa Ibom North-East) on the development through Order 43 of the Senate standing rules, alleging that the police action was meant to pave the way for the removal of Governor Udom Emmanuel from office.

PDP alleges plot by APC to 'forcefully' take over Akwa Ibom

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) of causing mayhem in Akwa Ibom State in order to take control of the state by force.

The accusation by the main opposition party is coming as the Senate Wednesday ordered a thorough investigation into the alleged invasion of the state House of Assembly by officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in the early hours of the day.

Boko Haram kills Nigerian Army commander, dozens of soldiers

 Rampaging Boko Haram insurgents overran a Nigerian Army battalion in Borno State on Sunday, killing the unit’s commander and dozens of soldiers

A large cache of arms, ammunition and military equipment were carted away by the Boko Haram fighters during the attack on 157 Task Force Battalion in Metele, Abadam Local Government Area, at about 6:00 p.m., a setback for government forces trying to push terrorists further out of Nigeria’s northeastern flank.

Four INEC workers, NYSC member, 3 year-old die in Kogi auto crash

Four staff members of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), an NYSC member and a three-year-old girl died in an accident on Ajaokuta–Lokoja Road on Saturday, an official has confirmed.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) learnt in Lokoja on Sunday that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member was performing his primary assignment with INEC office in Lokoja and that the child belonged to one of the INEC staff members.

Ekiti Muslims protest illegal take-over of mosque site by Fayose

Muslims community in Ekiti State has called on the government to revoke the land allegedly acquired by former Governor Ayodele Fayose in Ado-Ekiti for his son, to avert crisis in the state.

The placard-carrying faithful under the aegis of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at, Ekiti State Chapter, appealed to Governor Kayode Fayemi to revoke the ownership of the land from Fayose and return it to them in order to avert a crisis in the state.

Evans: police hid me from Falana in toilet

Lagos High Court in Igbosere at the weekend heard that the police hid suspected billionaire kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, alias Evans, from rights activist Mr Femi Falana SAN, in a toilet.

Alleged billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, alias Evans, has maintained his claim that he was tortured by the Police to make what they term his confessional statement.


He countered the claim by the Police that his statement was obtained under a fair atmosphere, and that the statement could have been taken in the presence of a lawyer, if Evans had hired one.

Mahmood Yakubu, chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), says the commission will not fail Nigerians in the 2019 general election.Yakubu made this promise while speaking at the 6th Anniversary Lecture and Investiture into the Real News Hall of Fame held in Lagos on Thursday.

The  event was tagged: “Political Transitions and Africa’s Economic Development: Preparations for Nigeria’s 2019 General Elections”.

2019: UPP adopts Buhari as presidential candidate

National Chairman Chief Chekwas Okorie, United Progressive Party (UPP), says that the party has adopted President Muhammadu Buhari as its candidate in the 2019 presidential election.

Okorie disclosed this while speaking with State House correspondents after leading a South-East group to a closed door meeting with Buhari on Friday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Obasanjo seeks constitutional amendment.

Olusegun Obasanjo on Wednesday seeks constitutional amendment to give room for youths to contest political offices.

Obasanjo, however, warned politicians against using Nigerian youths as thugs, while keeping their children in “safe havens.”


He submitted that Nigerian youth are capable of taking the country to the promised land if allowed to take charge of leadership in the country.

INEC: Reasons Politicians Resort to Vote Buying

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has alleged that politicians now resort to vote buying during elections because they have suddenly realised that they can no longer manipulate the system, and that votes now count in elections.

This is as the commission said Rivers State has registered 2.8 million voters in March this year while about 400,000 voters in the state were yet to collect their permanent voter cards (PVCs).

confusion on Tuesday at the Anambra State House of Assembly


The Anambra state House of Assembly was divided among itself as the two different groups produced its own Speaker, after the impeachment of the Speaker  Rita Maduagwu.

Twenty members of the House had earlier in the day claimed to have impeached Maduagwu over financial impropriety, gross misconduct, incompetence and sundry allegations. The House has 30 members.
