Nigeria Dangote: 9m tonnes supply to crash cement prices by 300%

Dangote Cement Plc, yesterday, predicted sharp drop in local cement prices by 300 percent from next month.

The company said this will be made possible by the supply of an additional nine million metric tons into the market from its factories at Ibese and Obajana.
Also the cement giant is coming out with its own brand of 32.5 grade cement in the next seven days.

Boko Haram Captures Bara, Banki Towns In Yobe, Borno

►Twenty four hours after Boko Haram insurgents attacked Bama town in Borno state, the sect members yesterday, in a convoy of Toyota Hilux vehicles and motorcycles took over another border town of Banki, after killing unconfirmed number of residents, as others fled to Cameroon.

►According to a resident, Ibrahim Musa, in a telephone interview from Cameroonian border village yesterday, the Nigerian Custom Services, NCS, Nigerian Immigration Services, NIS, military and police posts at Banki border areas were deserted by security personnel manning them, two hours after the attack on Tuesday night.

Six brothers docked for shooting police officer in Lagos

Six brothers were, yesterday, charged before an Ebute-Metta Chief magistrate’s court, sitting in Oyingbo for allegedly shooting a police officer.

The defendants are Saheed Onilewaji, 38; Lawal Onilewaji, 34; Ramon Onilewaji, 35; Azeez Sanni Onilewaji, 30; Sulaimon Abbas Onilewaji, 31 and Lateef Abbas Onilewaji, 24.

Nigeria: Tanker drivers threaten strike over state of roads

THE Petroleum Tanker Drivers branch of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG,  has threatened to withdraw its service if the Eleme Junction Road leading to the Port Harcourt Refinery in Rivers State, was not repaired.

Speaking in Lagos yesterday, National President of the Petroleum Tanker Drivers, Mr Salimon Oladiti, said that some members of the group had suffered various degrees of injuries as a result of accidents caused by the bad road.

Fire razes police barracks in Lagos and 5 other buildings

Ijeh Police Barracks in Obalende area of Lagos, Wednesday, went up in flames, rendering 24 families of policemen homeless and destroying property worth millions of naira.

A riffle said to have been brought home by one of the policemen was also burnt.
Yesterday’s incident was the second in eight months.
Five other buildings, among them the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Halleluya Parish in Ikorodu and a market in Ayobo area of the state, were also destroyed by fire at the weekend.

►FORMER Borno State Governor, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, yesterday, scolded the All Progressives Congress and the Australian negotiator, Dr. Stephen Davies for linking him with the sponsorship of Boko Haram activities in Nigeria.

►Addressing a world press conference in Abuja, Sherriff lamented that he was wrongly linked with the violent group, as he had no relationship whatsoever with the sect.
