Civil society groups hail NYSC over reduction of registration fees

Coalition of civil society groups under the aegis of Good Governance Forum has hailed the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) over its reduction of the online registration fees for prospective corps members.

The NYSC had two weeks ago announced the reduction of the registration fees from N4,000 to N3,000 following agitation by stakeholders in the education sector.

‘Outcome of polls’ll determine Nigeria’s democracy’ - WANEP-Nigeria

The West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP-Nigeria), a coalition of 102 civil society groups has said the credibility and outcome of the 2015 rescheduled general elections will determine whether the choices make by Nigerians will make or mar the country’s democracy.

This was disclosed yesterday by the national network coordinator of WANEP-Nigeria, Ifeanyi Okechukwu who tasked Nigerians at a media round table to present analysis of risks factors and recommendations towards peaceful elections to ensure that the forthcoming poll is conducted in an informed manner that will make the people benefit from its outcome, which will eventually strengthening the nations destiny.

Former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo has endorsed opposition candidate and former military ruler Muhammadu Buhari to be the next leader of Africa’s most populous nation. In a bid to oust incumbent Goodluck Jonathan, Obasanjo also warned the government not to give the military an opportunity to return to power.

The endorsement, in an interview with the Financial Times, is unusual for one reason. Obasanjo is a founding member of president Jonathan’s People’s Democratic Party. Buhari is leader of the opposition All Progressives Congress.
