UN launches $174m appeal for Nigeria’s Boko Haram refugees

The United Nations launched an appeal, yesterday for $174 million in what it called “life-saving aid” for almost 200,000 Nigerians who have fled brutal attacks by Boko Haram jihadists.

The insurgents, who are seeking to create an Islamic state in the country’s predominantly Muslim north, have killed more than 13,000 people since 2009.

2015 Elections: Navy warns against movement on waterways in Anambra

Nigerian Navy, yesterday, warned that it would not tolerate movement on the waterways in Anambra State during the governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections on Saturday and urged those doing business there to keep off.
The Nigerian Navy said the warning had become very imperative in keeping with the directive of the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Usman Jubrin, for the waterways to be rid of miscreants and those who might want to use the them to cause trouble during the elections.

Buhari’s emergence’ll free Esan people from political bondage says Royal Father

The Enojie of Opoji and Vice Chairman, Edo State Council of Traditional Rulers, His Royal Highness, HRH, Aidonojie Ehidiamen 1, has linked the emergence of General Muhammadu Buhari as President with the liberation  of Esan people from the stranglehold of the chairman, Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Tony Anenih.

He accused Chief Anenih of concentrating all federal appointments in his area Uromi to the detriment of other areas in Esan land since 1999.

Don’t vote until you see result sheets, Amaechi tells Rivers APC members

Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State has warned that members of his All Progressives Congress, APC,will not vote in tomorrow’s election if they do not see result sheets at polling centres.

He also said that an alleged renewed upsurge in militancy in parts of the state ahead of tomorrow’s governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections was as a result of the alleged quest by Mrs. Patience Jonathan, the First Lady, to control the affairs of the state and further mastermind the rigging of the elections in favour of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Without PVCs, don’t go near polling units, INEC warns voters

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Plateau State has warned those without the Permanent Voters Cards, PVCs to stay away from polling units during tomorrow’s elections.

INEC reiterated that only those in possession of their PVCs would be allowed into polling units even as card readers would be deployed for the April 11, 2015 elections.
