Today Taliban had vowed to allow remaining people to leave

Taliban promises it will give a 'safe passage' to people trying to leave the country after Tuesday's deadline - as 1,000 Afghans and 150 remain behind

to allow remaining people to leave

The UK Government today said it had received assurances from the Taliban that anybody wishing to leave Afghanistan after August 31 will be allowed to do so.

UK troops have already left Kabul and US military personnel will be out of Afghanistan before the August 31 deadline set by US President Joe Biden.

But there have been fears over the potentially thousands of Afghans who may have been eligible for resettlement schemes, who could not make it to Kabul airport for evacuation or were not processed in time.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Sunday that if the Taliban regime wanted diplomatic recognition and aid funding, they would have to ensure "safe passage" for those who want to leave

And in a joint statement with the US and more than 90 other countries, it was confirmed that the Taliban had said anyone who wished to leave the country could do so.

The joint statement said: "We have received assurances from the Taliban that all foreign nationals and any Afghan citizen with travel authorisation from our countries will be allowed to proceed in a safe and orderly manner to points of departure and travel outside the country

ISIS rockets fired at US were brought down by defence systems. There were no US casualties

Rockets are fired at Kabul airport as US troops race to evacuate: Attack follows American drone strike on ISIS-K that killed three children and other civilians after setting off jihadists' explosives

At least five rockets have been fired at Hamid Karzai airport in the Afghan capital of Kabul this morning, a US official said, with most intercepted by missile defence systems. There are currently no reports of US casualties but that information may change, the official added, saying it is not clear whether all of the rockets were intercepted. It is just the latest attack on the airfield after an ISIS-K suicide bomber blew themselves up at a military checkpoint last week, killing 170 people including 13 US Marines, before an American drone strike thwarted what was believed to be a group of ISIS-K suicide bombers preparing to launch another bomb attack on Sunday. The strike hit two cars filled with explosives sitting outside a house to the north of the airfield, triggering a secondary explosion which killed at least three children and left other civilians wounded

US launched a strike targeting a vehicle containing 'multiple suicide bombers' driving to the Afghan airport

US launched a military strike targeting a vehicle containing 'multiple suicide bombers' driving to the Afghan airport, just hours after Joe Biden warned of the possibility of another jihadist atrocity following this week's attack

Two US officials speaking on condition of anonymity told Reuters that American forces launched a strike in the capital city targeting suspected ISIS-K militants who were aiming to attack Hamid Karzai International Airport, where Afghans are trying to flee the Taliban.

A Kabul police chief later claimed that a child had been killed after a rocket struck a house in the Khajeh Baghra area to the north-west of the airport, in what is thought to be a separate incident. Two witnesses said the blast appeared to have been caused by a rocket

A security official from the recently deposed government told AFP a house was struck. A source at the Afghan Ministry of Health separately told the BBC the blast was near the airport, while two witnesses told Reuters a house north of the airport was struck by a rocket..

US has lunch an air strike on ISIS stronghold that kills man believed to be mastermind

US has lunch an air strike on Afghanistan ISIS stronghold that kills man believed to be mastermind behind Kabul airport bombing that left 13 US troops and 170 Afghans dead

The Pentagon has launched a drone strike in the Islamic State's stronghold in eastern Afghanistan, killing a man believed to be involved in planning Thursday's Kabul airport bombing.

The  drone hit an ISIS-K member in Nangahar province, U.S. Central Command said

U.S. official told Reuters the strike was approved by President Joe Biden

The retaliation came less than 48 hours after a devastating suicide bombing claimed by the group killed as many as 170 Afghans and 13 American service members at the Kabul airport.. .

The strike killed one individual, and spokesman Navy Capt. William Urban said they knew of no civilian casualties.

US military 'conducted an over-the-horizon counterterrorism operation today against an ISIS-K planner,' Urban said.

'The unmanned airstrike occurred in the Nangahar Province of Afghanistan. Initial indications are that we killed the target. We know of no civilian casualties

It wasn't clear if that individual was involved specifically in the Thursday suicide blast outside the gates of the Kabul airport, where crowds of Afghans were desperately trying to get in as part of the ongoing evacuation from the country after the Taliban's rapid takeover
