World Bank pledges $200 millions to Ebola fight as panic grows

The World Bank has pledged $200 million to help contain the deadly Ebola virus reaping panic across west Africa, as Nigerian authorities say a doctor in Lagos has contracted the disease, the second case in the sprawling city.

The confirmation that a fourth doctor in the region had developed Ebola came Monday as fear and anger about the dead being left unburied in Liberia’s capital Monrovia brought protestors into the streets there.

►The Bauchi State Police Command has disclosed that some unknown ritualists attacked and removed the eyes of a nine-year-old boy in Toro Local Government Area of the state.
►The command’s spokesman, DSP Haruna Mohammed, who confirmed the incident yesterday, said around 2.30 pm, unknown assailants, suspected to be ritualists, attacked and removed the eyes of a nine-year-old Haruna Dahiru of Badiko ward in Toro Local Government Area of the state.

Okorocha Issued N50m Dud Cheque to Catholic Church

►Governor Rochas Okorocha has again come under fire as a fiery Catholic cleric, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, has accused him of giving a N50 million dud cheque to the Catholic Archbishop of Owerri Ecclesiastical Province, His Grace, Dr. Anthony J.V. Obinna.

►Mbaka told the congregation that Okorocha allegedly gave the dud cheque when the Archbishop wanted to re-roof Maria Assumpta Cathedral, Owerri, that was leaking a the time.

Obanikoro Reveals Why Soldiers Were Deployed To Osun

MINISTER  of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, yesterday said the deployment of armed security operatives, including soldiers to Osun State for Saturday’s governorship election was to prevent breakdown of law and order before, during and after the governorship election.

This came as the Acting Inspector General of Police, IGP, Suleiman Abba, warned politicians without legitimate business in the election to steer clear of the state during the elections.

Lagos doctor tests positive to Ebola virus

►The Federal Government has confirmed the first case of Ebola Virus Disease in a Nigerian medical doctor, who was among the people that had the first contact with Mr. Patrick Sawyer, the deceased Liberian and first confirmed Ebola victim in the country.
►Late Sawyer, a consultant to the Liberian Finance Ministry was found to be infected with the virus when he arrived Lagos on July 20, 2014. He died in quarantine on July 25 and his body was later cremated.
